Buddy of mine picked up this knife for me at an auction. Does anyone know anything about S&D Cutlery? I'm not sure what he paid, just wondering if its a decent blade.

Agreed. The handle is two toned wood and gorgeous from all indications. I just hope it cuts as good as it looks.

There should be a foot or at least a toe in that picture. That quarter means nothing to me.

A severed toe would be better...

Looks nice. It should have the steel type stamped or etched on it somewhere.

Regardless of who made it, 440 is 440 with only minor variation. That's probably SxxV or something else high end.

I would say just the opposite, unfortunately.

To the OP, it is a good looking knife. However, it's probably pretty inexpensive... Possibly made in China, Pakistan, etc.

It appears that S&D is a wholesale importer. They probably had nothing to do with the production of the knife. The blade is made of 420 J2 steel, which is very inexpensive. It's soft, but durable... Used as liner steel often, but not really considered a great blade steel... Edge retention will be fairly poor.

However, it's durable like I said before, and it won't rust on you! It's also a pretty nice looking blade! Personally, the cost of the knife (sells for 8$ on their website if you purchase as case) wouldn't matter to me in the slightest if a friend gave it to me. I would be proud to have it in my collection under those circumstances.
