Sorry hit the wrong button

Anyway, walking to stand with my daughter and hear a deer coming as we get to ladder. I climb up, open door, tell her to get up here NOW. Very dark. I sit down open one window can't see anything. Daughter is now up. Open front window hear the deer take two jumps then stop and snort a couple times. It's so close it sounds like its in the stand with us. Still can't see. We wait silently until day break. Never hear or see anything again. Should we have stayed on the ground? Made a call? What would you have done? Thanks.

They'd go hunting or fishing.

Meh, it's hard to say. In hindsight, I would say you would have been better off staying put and finding some kind of cover on the ground until you could see. Then, if the deer had gone on, you could climb up afterwards. Do you think you spooked her making racket getting up there?

I do.

ETA I was never concerned about my girl's safety, just possibly getting a kill.

This.

I learned a long time ago that if I spooked one near the stand when walking to it, then I may as well turn around and head back for camp.

Simply use that as a tool to keep her interested and looking for more deer. She will appreciate the next one much more when she can watch it and then hopefully make the kill.

You can't ever had a bad experience with a kid in the woods.
