Anybody know anything about this? I need a new hobby and this seems like it'd be fun. My buddy at work has an M1 that he says he never shoots and I can use whenever I want. I shoot pretty good and think I could eventually compete but it's hard to find any decent info on the internet. Any advise?

Please and Thank You.

I'm useless in that realm. There's a few posters here that do some rifle shoots.

I competition shoot shotgun sports (mostly sporting clays).

I don't shoot a lot of rifles except to sight in my deer rifle. However, I would think the best way to get started is to find a gun club closest to you that has a rifle range and go visit one day.

What do like about shooting rifles? Long distances? etc.?

Edit: Where do you live?

contact the NRA and ask about their sanctioned competitions in your area and who to contact for getting your foot in the door.

I live in BR. I never shot a rifle before I joined the Marines. I've qualified expert everytime except once. And I call bullshite on that one because I didn't get a chance to pre-qual. I don't know anything about what types of courses of fire that are offered but I think I'd like to do long range iron sight stuff.

Join the LSA (Louisiana Shooting Association).

They conduct high power matches at Palo Alto on a regular basis -- your M1 (I presume you mean Garand, and not an M1 Carbine) is the perfect rifle for these competitions.

Once you join you can ask why they chose to support the Constitutional Amendment that is creating havoc with LE attemots to keep guns out of the hands of felons.

I've never done it. Had a friend that did though. He shot a .308 he built custom. Travelled as far as N.C. for some matches. Won a couple of guns and a little cash here and there. More importantly though, he made some contacts with some pretty knowledgeable folks and learned alot.

Yeah, it's a Garand. Does anyone know if they have different classes or categories? Can you use any rifle you want?

Absolutely. I'm gonna troll the shite out of those right wing nutjobs with lots of guns. I like to live on the edge.

I think many clubs have a category for stock military rifles. I know ours does and they have matches restricted to those periodically.

I think the three gun would be fun. The biggest challenge would be finding the time to practice all that shite.
