bullshite fine. The punter was getting in position to make a play on Brown returning the punt.

The NFL head of officials said the punters are considered defenseless during the entire play. Seems a bit counterintuitive, but they make the rules.

if thats the case they need to have an extra man on the punt team and have the punter run off the field immediately after a kick.

This seems like more of a fine for the effect of the hit rather than legality of the hit. I think if Terence Garvin doesn't plant his helmet on the poor punter's chin it would not have been a fine.

That's the thing. I think he would've been fined if he hit anyone else like that. You can still block punters, but there was no reason to lay him out like that.

Just teach one of your DB's how to punt. They will be untouchable on all punts

Even though Huber was trying to position himself to tackle or slow down Steelers punt returner Antonio Brown (who scored on the play), punters and kickers are considered defenseless at all times — even when affirmatively deciding to enter the fray.

Reinstating the platoon system (ie, one player substitution per play, unless there is a timeout, a score, or end of period) would end all this defenseless player stuff.

Who's in favor of it?

That's not necessary.

Proper enforcement by the letter of the rule. Stupid fricking rule.

If he's defensless, he shouldn't be trying to make a tackle. Just run off the fricking field after you kick it if you don't want to actually play football.

Good. Breaking someone's jaw with your helmet should never be OK.

They can still be blocked. They can't just be hit in the helmet or neck area. And they can't be hit with unnecessary contact.

All three of those occurred in this play and the result was a broken jaw and fractured vertrebrae.

It was a tPOS hit.

Hitting a punter high and hard is a bitch move. He wanted to light him up, anyone denying that is lying to themselves.

It's fun to light weak kids up, we used to do it in HS all the time.

But it's still a tPOS move

I dunno, I guess. I just don't care for the idea of a player being automatically defensless and essentially untouchable, even if he is going for the ball and trying make a play.

If Huber was a DB this wouldn't be anything, which doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
