This is something that the local community ought to be bitching LOUDLY about when we see more and more neutral site regular season games.

quote:

4. LSU Tigers

Team value: $105 million
Revenue: $74 million
Profit: $48 million
Conference: SEC
Head coach: Les Miles

The Tigers are no longer the SEC's most valuable program, thanks in part to the team failing to make a BCS bowl since the 2011 title game, but LSU's value is still strong thanks to a massive fan base. Almost half of the fans at every home game travel to Tiger Stadium from outside Baton Rouge, and those visitors inject nearly $10 million into the local economy each home weekend.

Unless of course those games are played in Houston...or Dallas...or Atlanta, etc.

That's pretty damn impressive for a school not generally thought of as traditional power like some of the other more media popular schools.

The community isn't entitled to it. LSU can do what it damn well pleases.

No kidding...but keep in mind that the local community is part of WHY the program is able to remain so profitable. Why make it seem as if there needs to be an adversarial relationship between the community and the university?

If polled, the majority of season ticket holders would prefer big games to be played in Tiger Stadium rather than Houston or Dallas. Anyone disagree? Local businesses (if this report is accurate) would clearly prefer it.

I'm just saying there are clearly positive factors for trying to keep some of these big games at home, rather than turning them over to other cities.

A very small part FWIW. The vast majority of the people tailgating and going to games aren't from BR. It's the players, TV contracts and advertising that makes us profitable.

I don't feel like this is the case at all.

Well, of course. I'd rather every big game in TS, but that isn't always what's best for LSU.

LSU does to an extent. They're trying to further expand our national brand. It's clearly working.

Why would you repeat that? Next season, the new SEC Network will bring in millions, and Tiger Stadium itself will have a much more premium seating, as well as 6,000 more regular seats in the new upper deck to draw cash from.
