Down to three trucks: help me choose

2013 f150 xlt 4x4 sticker 45k price 30k
2014 f250 xlt 4x4 6.2l gas. Sticker 47k price 37.5k
2013f250 xlt 4x4 6.7 diesel sticker 56k price 43.5k
Daily driver. Pull a small travel trailer currently but will probably upgrade to larger one soon. Don't need the diesel but its nice to always have enough truck. Longterm durability of the new generation diesels scare me. I will probably have said vehicle for 7+ years.

While I generally agree, the f150 is 33% off MSRP. I can't buy a year old one with 15k miles for that price.

If you're getting off the pavement, the weight of the diesel can cause trouble.

You didn't mention what engine was in the F150.
But if I was going to be buying a bigger TT in the near future I would not want my limit to be based on what my F150 can pull.
I would go with the Diesel. So far the new 6.7 seems to a good motor for Ford.

Have a 13 F250 diesel. Get about 16-17mpg. A few things about the newer Ford diesels.
Oil change is 13 quarts. Unless you DIY, oil change runs $85 to $90 for normal oil. Easily $120 if you use synthetic.
Fuel filter change is going to cost you about $90 IF you do it yourself. Easy to do... one under the cab and one under the hood and takes less than 15 minutes. At a place like Jiffy Lube it will run $175+
Also, the coolant is different and the pH and concentration has to be checked. Can't just look at the color anymore. Lots of people have to go to the dealer to have this done. Think there are some kits coming out for DIY.
Power is great for towing. Been pulling a 20' loaded trailer up through the mountains of Colorado for 10 years. Gas engines struggle big time up there... drops down to 3-4 mpg and speed drops. Diesel cruised on up the hill still getting 8-10 mpg.
This is my first Ford diesel. Has a lot more hesitation than the GMC Duramax when you push the pedal way down.
Hard to beat the F150 unless you towing in high country.

I'd get the one with the best gas mileage. Like someone else said, just get a F150 for the uses you describe. Unless you get a waaaaay better deal on the F250.

The F150 will probably do everything you ever need. Just go off the towing capacities. I'd trust either of the gassers to get 7 trouble free years more than the diesel. If you get the diesel, trade it in before the warranty goes out.

I have the 6.2 and love it. Granted, it's in a F150 which is tuned to produce more Hp nd TQ, but not much more.
The LADWLF agents love their 6.2 F250s. I never got to drive one because I left too soon but they hated the 2500 Rams with the Hemi and we're all begging for the 6.2.

Unless your getting some monster trailer get the F150. I pulled a 35ft with my 1/2 ton before I got a 2012 diesel and I while I like my diesel, I wish I had a tacoma for daily driving. The new campers are very light weight and you can pull a big camper with a 1/2 ton unless going into hill country.

I like the 6.2 and I think it's a good alternative to the diesel, which you couldn't make me own.
I don't think the OP needs to live with 10mpgs though

I saw a guy the other day at the pump in a 2500 6.0 gas burner and asked him how he liked it. He said he loved it, that was his work truck and he had a personal too. We got to talking about diesels and he said he was a diesel mechanic and wouldnt own any of the new generations

I know two diesel mechanics and they both drive HD gassers.

I bought an 06 Duramax new before the ultra low sulfur diesel. I wouldn't buy another diesel if I was buying a new one. I've had very little trouble out of my truck so far.
