I have always wondered how much power the Texas has. Did he say how high when they asked him to jump?

Not when he started. Over time, he went from the one pulling the strings to the one attached to them.

who knows, all I know is the timing of all that crap fri-sat stinks to high heaven. Anyone that believes Saban wasn't listening to Texas is crazy also, even if he had no intention of going there. Its no accident that it dragged out as long as it did and as soon as Saban agreed to terms that Mack stepped down. The question is who is pulling the strings and to what end? All I do is that is a shite storm over there and someone would be crazy to step into it. Its a shame that should be the best job in the country. Endless money and recruits, just too many cooks in the kitchen.

If there is one thing you can bet on, its probably this. Which is also one of the reason why Nick is still at Bama.

Nick is still at Bama because of one very big booster who happens to be Mack Brown's personal attorney.

That attorney made his money raping Texaco and the tobacco industry. The first of which he won by paying off a judge.

NIck won't put up with ppl interfering in the program that's why. Until Texas gets that shite under control you won't hire a coach worth a shite.

Not sure what's going on in this thray.

Mack was done in by the staggering defeats to OU over the years. Losing repeatedly in that fashion to your rival is one thing, but also the impact on their NC hopes after each defeat.

Had some of those OU games been closer or they could've eeked out a couple more... he'd still be coach. The losses to BYU and similar oops-games over the years pale in reflection.

The irony is Texas administered one of its more severe arse whippings on the sooners this season. I imagine that must be sweet for Mack at least.

Mack was done in by a combination of factors.

1. The one you just mentioned
2. Being perceived as passed up by A&M
3. Being perceived as passed up by Baylor

The combination of 2 and 3 far outweigh 1.

Jamail had the judge in his back pocket and although Jamail had tried some successful cases before Pennzoil v. Texaco, this one netted him $335 million in 1985 money. His previous large win was a gun settlement where the judge awarded an 8 million dollar settlement for the plaintiff.

quote:

The Pennzoil forces wasted no time in exploiting the hometown advantage. Judge Anthony A. P. Farris was assigned to hear pretrial matters on the case, and two days after the assignment, Joe Jamail contributed $10,000 to his reelection campaign. Mr. Jamail, who was already a member of the steering committee for the judge’s campaign, had previously contributed only $100. Moreover, the large contribution raised eyebrows because Jamail was a liberal democrat and Farris a conservative Republican.

Absolutely happened. Except they didn't call it a 'pay off', they called it a 'campaign contribution'.

The original judge in the Texaco case, State District Judge Anthony Farris, was facing re-election in November, 1984. He had practically no funds for this campaign. On March 5, 1984, Judge Farris was assigned jurisdiction over all pretrial legal matters in 'Penzoil vs. Texaco'. Two days later, he received a campaign check for $10,000, four times greater than the largest amount he had ever received previously.

The check came from one Joe Jamail, who also sat on Ferris' campaign steering committee. Coincidence? You decide.

And the result? A major US corporation went bankrupt and over 12,000 people lost their jobs. But do you think Jamail loses sleep over this? Not hardly. Sociopaths are notoriously sound sleepers.

Yes, the UT coaching search is in good hands.
