Malzahn would be foolish to leave.

Since 1980, who has had more undefeated seasons, conference championships, and national championship appearances? Oh yes, Texas is so much more elite.

Since I've been living (33 years) Auburn is a much more successful program than Texas. Every Auburn coach in my lifetime has had success at Auburn. Dye, Bowden, Chizik, Tuberville, and now Malzahn. I can't say that about Texas.

These threads are dumb.

Maybe I should start one titled - "The New England Patriots are good every year! Why would Belichick consider taking the Texas job!!???"

This lends itself to my comments the other night about "good program" vs. "good job."

I'd wager that, while Texas is potentially a better job than Alabama, for instance, it's nowhere near as good a program.

When the HC at your in state rival starts whining about fast tempo offense, you know Gus is in his head.

Texas plays in the Big-2 despite winning it but twice the last 16 years, played the national title both times?

Aub in the nation's deepest division and conference, which can and does go a good three or four deep some seasons, plus an SECCG..

Starting next year it's all about making the Final Four, and when with a loaded team under elite HC, the Flag-esque Big-2 makes for plenty of pollster impressioned routs with all the matador Ds you can highlight reel on SportsCenter.

Just watch, the Final Four isn't gonna eliminate controversy, but also create plenty, as that selection room with Condy,etc..will be emerging with a "PC-esque Final 4" not the four best teams. There will be some 2nd SEC teams that will have better SOS and rating than will some Big-10, Big-12, Pac, ACC teams that make it to the Playoffs.

Auburn has a quality no doubt. But rreally to Questioning Texas status as "Elite" is a show of your lack of knowledge of NCAA Football.

Texas has 2 of the top 7 longest winning streaks in history. The melt down of the Big 12 came after they proved to be "Elite".

Comparably, Auburn is in the top 7 for NCAA major violations & probation.

Both noteworthy, but the edge goes to Texas.

You intend the OP? You've misread my vagueness. I've lived in Austin before, know UT's history, have UT friends, attended their games under Mack, and believe UT easily a Top 5 job. Teasing the Big-12's modern era depth and quality, does not equate questioning Texas status as an elite program when run properly.

My assertion to OP thread title is basically, 'UT a better job in new Final Four system, and easier route to get to it..recruiting, schedule, warchest,etc..'

Aub must win state(Iron Bowl), SEC West(Bama and LSU, now ATM, Ark), and SECCG(when Fla, UGA, USC have stout team)..

Texas largely needs to just best OU, OSU, then TT and Baylor if with good team..

Auburn is elite among numbers runners, juco sleeks, bunco runners, and bad bankers with bad excuses and fall guys among other slime oozing on Gus before the gimmick game. No one has stayed at Auburn without the threat of an indictment or worse since pat dye..

just because a flavor of the month sandlot offense.....

Auburn life probably sucks arse as an adult non-student. I'd rather live in Austin.

Flavor of 4 years at Auburn. Seems to work pretty well, wouldn't you agree?

Sorry it was for the OP.
You make a few good points.

My points is when a school wins as many games, over so long a period. That puts them in an Elite stauts itself. Throw in the facilities, Univesty backing & budget. It'll stay elite for a long time.
These last few years are so much better that others "down" years at other schools.

Had LSU supported Charles McClendon similar too the support Texas gives it's coaching. He would have won 20 more games.

Depends on how adult. Auburn has its charms. If you're a guy, you're good until about 30. If you're married with kids, you're set with a great town and good schools.

I agree Austin is obviously more fun.
