We would likely play the Bears or the Eagles in the first round and assuming San Francisco is the 6th seed, they would have to go to Seattle first in a winnable game for them. If the 49ers win and Saints beat Carolina, the 49ers would have to come to the Dome. Not a terrible scenario.

Of course we could also end up being the 6th seed, play the #4 Bears or #3 Eagles and then go to Seattle only to have to travel to San Francisco or Carolina if by some miracle we win that game.

Best case scenario is a #2 seed bye which means we could likely get #5 seed San Francisco in the Dome as the first match up while #6 Panthers goes to Seattle. Or we play Chicago or Philly in the dome assuming Carolina lost in the first round. Chances are high the Saints would still have to win in Seattle.

Of course all this can dramatically change over the next few weeks but this is what it's starting to look like.

difference between 5 and 6 appears to be substantial if we get past first road win

Any scenario with us having to play more than one road game to get to the SB is a bad scenario.

I think it's either the 2 or the 6 for us. I guess there's a slight chance Arizona beats San Fran.

I fail to see how this team playing in Chicago or Philadelphia in January will end well.

IMO, 2 seed is only scenario that offers any legitimate hope.

Basically win @ Carolina this week and get a bye and home game, or get the #5 and have to win @ NFCN/NFCE then win @ Carolina.

Either way NFC Champ game we would need #6 SF to win @ Seattle in order to host, otherwise travel to the northwest again.

GFY

This is not what it is looking like. This is a worse case scenario.

Holy Sunshine Pumping, Batman!

To be fair though, your post isn't that bad, but any scenario that has us playing on the road will probably mean we will get bounced with the quickness.

interesting scenario. the 49ers are built to beat Seattle, but i'd rather the 2nd seed.

maybe this was all God's plan for the Saints to finally get their first road playoff win in their franchise history...

Duh. Saints at 2, Carolina at 5, and Niners at 6 are best case scenario for Saints.
I can see Detroit/Chicago/Philly/Dallas beating Carolina in the 1st round. Which would set up Niners at Seattle and Detroit/Chicago/Philly/Dallas at Saints in divisional round.

This group just got blasted on the road in perfect conditions (half full dome with very little noise to deal with). Have you seen the conditions in Philly and Chicago over the last few weeks? Heavy snow (Philly) and sub 10 degree temps (Chicago). Granted neither the Eagles or the Bears have the pass rush of the Rams, but I'd have zero confidence in the Saints being able to beat one of those teams on the road in those conditions. Give me the #2 seed with the likelihood of having to travel to Seattle again over having to play in what would likely be horrible weather conditions.

If anyone thinks we're going to Philadelphia next month and winning a football game is smoking some God da** grand daddy purp mixed with some acid and bath salt!!

ETA: If we don't get the #2 seed, we're 1 and done come January.

People need to stop dreaming. The only way the Saints get anywhere is with home games. If they land the 5 seed, Saints are screwed.

Arizona usually holds their own at home. I bet they win that game.

By the way, the 1 seed is still in play, mathematically.

IF Seahawks lose last 2 (fat chance), San Fran win last two, Saints win last 2, Saints will be 1 seed by tie breaker with San Fran.

ETA: This is according to ESPNs Playoff Machine.
