I remember a telephone conversation O'Toole had with Walton &Johnson where they ridiculed him for his pretentiousness so bad that he hung up on them.

No talent arse clowns mocking one of the greatest actors of his generation... sounds like great radio.

O'Toole was a true giant of the industry.

I can't remember the actor who was talking about this -- I know he is a much beloved actor who is very big into the method school of acting -- but he once asked O'Toole how he got into the head of his characters, and O'Toole just looked at him and said, "My boy, it's called acting." frick your method acting!

for years I've had a snippet of an interview between Peter O'Toole and David Letterman under the quotations part of my facebook page, them talking about "old hollywood":

Dave Letterman:"...drinking was just something you did when you weren't doing anything else."
Peter O'Toole: "And when you were doing something else!"

IMHO the greatest performance in history was O'Toole's portrayal of of T.E. Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia. /salute None of us truly knows what follows death but this performance will live on until the end of time as we know it.

I believe you're mixing that up with Christopher Plummer.

Ya'll will probably crucify me for this, but I loved him as Cedric in King Ralph. Makes me laugh everytime I see it.

do yourself a favor and track down My Favorite Year to see him at his comedic best. unbelievable movie. didn't realize he had an academy award nomination for that one, but it was easily deserved.

I said this in the other thread, but his portrayal of Lawrence is still the finest performance I've ever seen in film.

Don't worry about it. He deserves multiple threads.

Another great drinking story from O'Toole:

quote:

O'Toole went out boozing with Michael Caine when he was O'Toole's understudy for 'The Long And The Short And The Tall' at the Royal Court Theatre in 1959. The last thing Michael Caine remembered was eating egg and chips, before waking up in a strange flat with a headache. "What time is it?" he inquired. "Never mind what time it is," said O'Toole. "What fricking day is it?" Two days had passed and they were due on stage in three hours.

He looked 100. I was shocked he was only 81. Hard drinking takes its toll.
