Going out some time this week to da marsh in my kayak. Planned on heading out right at sunup. Figure with the full moon birds won't fly right at first light anyway.

I know the usual hunting courtesies. School me on anything else I need to know for my first time.

Don't sky blast. Unless of course you definitely saw A band. In that case, all out to claim your jewelry.

Don't be late. Don't show up 30 min after shooting hours driving your boat through other peoples decoys

Probably one of the "usual hunting courtesies" but never ever set up on the same "pond" as another hunter. Always be out of range as to not rain another hunter.

Why do I say these obvious? Every year I hunted in Sabine NWR, this happened. Morons.

That seems a bit late for public land.

Oh beam, heres a couple of things..

Set up no further than 200 yards from the guys with the longest beards and most face paint

Have a Q beam, so when they wave their flashlight to say good morning, you have something to respond with

Always call really loud as the ducks are banking over their decoys, if that doesnt work, fire a warning shot

Put out no less than 400 decoys, 5 mojos

The next morning, be in the hole that longbeards were in this morning by 3:30

As far as I know, there are no rules.

You should set up on the opposite side of the pond from someone, blast if they cup up 500 feet above you, and if it lands in there decoys just starting spraying.. sink all them bitches.

At least that's what people have done to me, I have had to make sure to duck whenever these guys shot... was getting peppered all morning. Freaking giving them morse code to gtfo while they were setting up no more than 200 feet away.

this

it is an unspoken rule on public land that you can show up at daylight and claim your spot

the people there before you have to leave if they are decent human beings

you don't have to mark it or anything, just say "hey, this is my spot"
