So when a kick gets blocked, it's the kickers fault and not the ten guys there to protect him and the ball?

Pretty sure, he could angle it higher by kicking lower on the football for more of a chip shot. That is not a far field goal to have to boot the shite out of it at a low 45 degree angle. Yes the blocking should have been better. But its just hartley being hartley, guy kicked it like a kickoff not a field goal. Get the fricking ball up.

ETA: I kicked in HS, I'm no NFL kicker but I know it can be done.

Someone knows a little about kicking.

And he damn near missed the first one too.

Dumbass didn't kick around the defenders.

Engrishh please. Hartley kicked that ball too low. End of story. His fault. Also, he barely made the first one. The Super Bowl was his zenith. He is about average now at best.

Watch the replay. He hooked it. Ball was going to be spinning sideways right after it would have crossed the line

Alright lil math.

Brock is 6'5", with out stretch arms say 8'5ish. Lets just say he had a really good jump on that one, and got his hand 11 feet in the air. Standard field goal is 7 yards from the LOS. Say long snapper got pushed back two yards. For Brock to get a finger on that, Hartley had to kick at 33 degree angle.

Thats fricking less than an optimum on a kickoff when distance is key, not on a field goal where your objective is to get the ball up out of the reach of blockers.

I don't like ragging him cause he's in the NFL and I'm not. But that is simple field goal kicking 101

It was obvious from the ~2 yards the ball traveled that it was going to be a miss.
