I was thinking about the EOTECH 512. Any experience or other suggestions?

You won't find any bad reviews I imagine.

I prefer a clean dot reticle and was the reason I chose an Aimpoint. But I know plenty of guys that like the crosshair for long range shooting. It's also clearer when you use a magnifier.

Can't go wrong with an Eotech.

Can't go wrong with Eotech. I have the XPS2 on my AR. The advantage of that model is that its shorter, so it frees up rail space for a magnifier, night vision, etc. It also has the CR123 battery, so it wont have the recoil shutoff issues. I think it's an extra 50 bucks over the 512, but it's probably the only CQB optic you'll ever buy. Don't make the mistake of going cheap like I did at first and get a Sightmark. It's not the same.

On the other hand, Sightmark does make a decent magnifier if you don't feel like dropping 500 bucks on the EOTech one.

You can go wrong with EOTech when you run out of battery.

Slick guns has a deal on the 517 right now. That combined with the $60 rebate from eotech puts is around $100 off.
