Aldridge is a 21/11 guy. He doesn't run the floor like Davis though and I think Davis will always be a better shot bicker. But how many years do you guys think it will take for AD to surpass LA as the best PF in basketball?

He already is. Honestly we still haven't learned how to treat AD like a star yet

He's already better at certain phases. If Monty gives him free reigns and lets AD go to the dribble drive more often, it'll be sooner than later. The only thing I think Aldrigde is much better than AD is in his back to the basket game. Give AD a couple more off seasons, and he will be > Aldrigde.

If you expected legit answers this was the wrong board.

ETA: it's 23.5 and 10.6 not 21/11.

AD is a better overall than Aldridge to me. But Aldridge is the more polished scorer. As he should be. He's been in the league much longer. At the same points in their life, AD is way ahead of Aldridge though. Davis is putting up 20/10 like numbers vs NBA players. Aldridge was still at Texas at this stage.

I wonder if AD would be consider the best PF in the league if he played 37 mpg and shot the ball 20 times a game at 50%?

I mean, he plays 4 less minutes than LA on average--

AD compared to LA:

10.2 to 10.6 RPG

3.6 to .8 BPG

50% to 48% FG

85% to 80% FT

1.7 to 2.7 APG

28.3 to 23.8 PER

Aldridge is David West in his prime. Which is no slight to Aldridge considering West was an All Star in his own right. But if AD wasn't injured and Aldridge wasn't coming off a 31 point 25 rebound performance, then people wouldn't be overreacting.

PF 1-5

1. LBJ
2. Love
3. AD
4. LA
5. Griffin

LMA is 10th in PER and 7th in EWA. There's more to his game than just stats. He's much better than a prime West. Did West ever average 20 ppg or 9 RPG?

In a playoff series this season (possible 1v8 seed?), Aldridge will wax AD's arse. AD is nowhere near as refined as Aldridge yet. Aldridge is in his prime right now and verrry polished. AD is multiple years before his prime and has a long way to go before he's "better" than Aldridge.

Im as big a homer as it gets, but im also a realist. Counting this year, 3 years. AD is seaux young guys.

He averaged 21/9 in back to back years (27 and 28 y/o seasons) and never sniffed a conversation for best PF in the league. Just sayin. Both are great offensive players who can get points on their own. Great post moves and can knock down the midrange shot.

Aldridge is much better from midrange and in the half court offense in general. They play totally different styles. The difference is, however, that AD has the ability to do what LA does, but LA doesn't have the ability to do everything AD does.

AD is already better on defense (remarkably so when not against heavy, heavy post up guys) and in transition. AD is especially good on help defense and does a lot to erase other players mistakes, which aldridge can't do.

AD can fly on pick and rolls, but as far as isolations go, he has a couple of moves that work, but i think he has a longg ways to go to beat LA in that regard. AD also plays differently, he prefers to get the ball close and hit a little hook, while LA is just the best big from Jason Smith range in the league imo. IDK if AD will ever make it there, but he doesn't need to. Look at Kareem, hakeem, shaq, and other guys physically gifted like AD. They didn't need that to be GOAT players.

edit:

@ gyno, RIGHT NOW, i honestly don't think AD can shoot 50% on halfcourt isos on 20 shots a game as the last option like LA can. That's not his game, but give LA some credit. A consistent, high volume, high FG% scorer like that, one that draws a lot of double teams, does a lot for you.

@NOLAbaby, LA wouldn't "wax his arse" in the playoffs even if we have seen a video that may say otherwise. The reason the heat have won is in large part due to their ability to run the floor. AD has that showtime, unstoppable ability. It may not be in halfcourt, but with our ability to get steals, don't think it wouldn't happen in the playoffs. AD would also defend LA very well imo, they're one of the most likely teams to fall off come playoff time with their jump shot oriented offense. AD's energy and rebounding and constant movement is tiring and more uncontainable than open jumpers.
