Hate to hear stories like that. He was a good dog so he gets to go to beagle heaven where they chase rabbits and their barks are like the sounds from a church organ.

I like to think of Cooper like that.

Hence the edit.

Just missing my dog tonight y'all and almost teary eyed.

I woke up at 4:00am even though I'm off today. Gave the dog his meds and fed him then went into the bathroom. When I came out he was having a seizure on the couch. He has not had one since the vet put him on phenobarbital. It was mild compared to the ones he had been having but his eyes were going crazy and he was laying down but rigid. Mrs. House woke up and came out to the living room and our one year old got up also.

Once he calmed down, his breathing was really heavy and then I heard what we here refer to as a "death rattle." His breathing stopped and about a minute later so did his heart. Cooper was gone. he died with all of us right there petting him saying goodbye. My wife wanted to take him to the vet so we could have him cremated. Carrying his limp body out to the car was one of the hardest things I've done in awhile as my wife was sobbing when I closed the door. My heart breaks for her. She's had the dog longer than me. He was 12.

He hasn't been in the best of health for the last few years and I've gotten some solid advice here over that time. I wanted to say "thanks" to all of y'all - for the advice and for listening and actually caring. I feel a little better as I'm typing how shitty my morning started off.

No more seizures. No more pain or suffering. It was a good death. At home with the ones he loved instead of in a cage at a vet's office.

RIP Cooper. You will be missed more than you know. Love you little buddy.

Edit: Mrs. House just decided she wants to bury Cooper's ashes in Avoyelles Parish behind the house. That dog loved to run in the field back there.

Hell, maybe he'll meet up with Josey

This was her text to me: "That brings me a lot of comfort. I know he will take care of my bubba."

Sorry to hear that. I lost a my 7 year old boxer about 6 months ago in the same way. Had four or five bad seizures and the last one killed her. Had to carry her to the car and carry her into the vet and it still gets to me today. Sorry to hear about your loss. Think about the good times!

Sucks...hardest thing I had to do was make the decision to put my dude down after him being in the animal hospital for 2 weeks.

He had cancer and the cancer ate through his intestinal tract and he was just in all kinds of pain.

I cried like a 3yr old that night.

I did that at the car this morning when I put him in the back.

Sorry to hear man. Pets are a vital part of our families, and do for us much more than we'd initially think.

I feel your pain. Nothing better than a great pup and I'll be damned if I don't get a little emotional for ALL of these threads.

Stars will shine a little brighter tonight. Hell, maybe he'll meet up with Josey.
