Could the reason Saban hasn't signed the extension be he will retire soon?

By extension, I mean rumored Alabama extension. Does he just want to coach out the rest of his contract and then call it quits? How long does he have on his current contract?

I haven't kept up with this saga for a couple days so SIAP.

I doubt that he'll finish out his current contract but the reason he hasn't signed the new one is that it would be incredibly stupid to just take a pass on being able to get a million or two per year more out of Alabama than the current offer. He has literally zero reason to not tell Alabama what Texas offers and ask them to match it.

Nothing new that I know of. Just speculation.

Considering he said in an interview two weeks ago that he isn't retiring, no.

If his debt is as bad as it is made to be, can it afford to retire right now?

I think most of us (Bama fans and non-Bama fans) can agree that they're waiting on Texas to make an offer, and that contract "on Saban's desk" is worthless.

The rub is whether or not Texas is a legitimate threat to snatch him up.

Pretty sure that Saban's current contract allows hin total freedom to walk away at any time without any financial penalty.

Come on X- you don't take Saban at his word, anymore than a politician. Saban is all about Saban. While I think he will coach another 3-4 years, and probably stay at Bama, if he did a turn around, and landed in Austin, I wouldn't be surprised either.

That cannot be the reason as he has no out clause in any of his contracts so he could take the new money and still quit in a year or two for any reason he might give ,including retirement.
