The new four-team College Football Playoff begins after the 2014 season. Six bowls have been selected to rotate the semifinal games - Chick-fil-A Peach, Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Rose, and Sugar.
All six bowls in the College Football Playoff will be played on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day each season, except when those dates fall on a Sunday. Game times will be 1, 5, and 8:30 p.m. ET.
The Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl will host the first semifinal games on January 1, 2015. The first College Football Championship Game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Monday, January 12, 2015.

Clearly hosting the playoffs to determine which team gets Nick Saban for it's coach the next year.

Thought there was going to be the top eight teams playing in 4 bowls, then the 4 winners going on to the two semi-final games? Looks like one of the bowl games is going to be played on the same day as the semi-final games, so how does that work??

4 team playoff, not an 8 team. The years the bowls don't host the semi-final games they will have their own matchups. For the Sugar Bowl, that means the new Big 12 - SEC "Champions" matchup, which will probably not happen often.

i dont know why people complain about a bowl that will be a national semi final game some years.

I hate how Notre Dame is specifically built into the table

Just with their ACC tie in I believe.
Nevermind, looks like an Orange Bowl tie in.

It really could be worse only three bowls aren't in driving distances. Quit bitching
