So, is this worth going to see or wait until DVD?

Seeing Smaug on the big screen is worth it alone.

I liked how they focused Biblo's thievery on the Arkenstone alone. It made much more sense than the book where they wanted Bilbo to simply go in are start hauling out treasure.

I'm beginning to think Lacour was violated sexually by a hobbit. I wonder if he's ever met Kim Kardashian.

Yeah, it makes a lot more sense in the novel or animated movie. Who gives a shite about a silver cup? That's probably one of the less valuable things Bilbo could have picked up. No one is there to risk their lives for Bilbo to bring out one small trinket at a time. they're after hundreds and hundreds of billions of treasure.

The Arkenstone makes sense though, and especially making it the only way the Dwarves as a whole would come to Thorin's aid. Then they'd stand a chance against Smaug, but without it, they're basically screwed.

I actually thought the barrel escape scene was pretty good. I mean Legolas putting arrows through an orc's skull at point blank range was pretty bad arse. Was it kinda pointless? Yea probably so but it's still fun to watch him go all out Steven Segal on there arse. I mean hell it's fantasy action/adventure movie so might as well pull out every trick you got. Also I agree with everybody that Smaug was awesome and I hated the cliffhanger too. But the last line about "I am death" was money. At least we know the next movie will be full of some great action

I liked the movie. I thought it was better than the first. But i get that feeling like i got when i watched the second Star Wars trilogy. Where you think that the second trilogy is good. Just missing something that the original one had. I am not sure what it is. But i find myself wondering what it is that is missing from this second trilogy.

Really enjoyed this director's cut, all that extra footage! Couldn't imagine what the real movie must be like..

On a lighter note: Smaug

Saw it yesterday and loved it. I thought the ending was great. You knew it was a trilogy, why get pissy over the cliffhanger? My only beef with the entire series is the lack of Sauron. You have this bad arse villain and he's had 5 minutes of screen time in 15 hours. I want more Sauron and less eye.

Oh and this one was much better than the first.

Yes there was. You only did not know it at the time. It would later be established in the Appendicies of LOTR that Necromancer = Sauron.

The only real scene I had a problem with was Gandalf getting captured and his staff getting destroyed.
