post your reviews and discussions in this thread.

I'm still digesting this movie so I will post mine later.

but one not I feel like this is a transition movie and not much more. I really hope this is setting up for an epic conclusion in the 3rd movie. Where we see Smaug killed and epic battles that will revel the darkness that has tried to remain hidden.

As said in other thread, the two scenes that stood out:

Gandalf meets the necromanser and bilbo meets smaug are two intense, awesome scenes.

Smaug was perfect imo

Freckles didnt bother me as an addition to the movie

The river/ barrell scene was kind lf cheesy

Laketown was portrayed almost exactly how i pictured it when I read the book. It was erie.

Overrall I loved it, definitely will keep you entertained.

I'm tired so thats all i can think of now

Eta: "I am death". Perfect ending

I was very disappointed. I didn't like the cliffhanger. It just didn't feel the same as any other film in the series. It dragged greatly and so much could have been cut. The hobbit could easily have been fit into two flicks.

Way, way too much filler.

Smaug was great, though.

And I am a huge LOTR fan. This one was the weakest of all five. By far.

Hoping the final is better. I don't see how it can't be.

I've always seen these movies as an obscene money grab and nothing more. It speaks volumes that they dug up Orlando Bloom, who has more screen time than, you know, the Hobbit.

I thought it was a great story. Like another said Lake Town was absolutely perfect. Smaug was even better than I could picture him in my head. Lots of fun action, they are dwarves, elves, and orcs, I'm not looking for realism. Liked the ending, just wish we didn't have to wait for the next

Imagine that, Lacour being critical of something.

The Smaug scenes were excellent. The barrel chase scene was awful. The spider scene could have been better. I like the Necromancer storyline addition.

I keep patiently waiting for an explanation as to why Azog has been chasing the dwarves this whole time. I mean wtf? If they are gonna add that, at least tie it in to the plot line some how.

Beorn could have been better.

Wtf did they leaves dwarves at Laketown for? That departure is questionable.

I liked how they focused Biblo's thievery on the Arkenstone alone. It made much more sense than the book where they wanted Bilbo to simply go in are start hauling out treasure.

The barrel chase was meant to be ridiculous and lighthearted, and is enjoyed it as such. Several very funny moments.

As for Azog chasing the dwarves, the pale Orc kind of has some dislike for Thorin after he cut off his arm in battle long ago.

Yeah, I got that part. For me, if it wasn't in the book, I need it to make sense and add to the story in a meaningful way. Azog hasn't done that.

I see, I'm taking the approach of not comparing the movie to the book as I knew going in there would be a lot of changes. Not that there's anything wrong with your approach.

When the screen started to go dark with Smaug flying towards Lake Town several people in my theater were yelling "No!, No!"

I wish they had stayed truer to the lighthearted nature of the book.

Beorn's character could have been epically awesome but he was kind of a let down. I pictured his house much bigger, more of like a huge hunting lodge.

Mirkwood was not at all how I imagined it. I pictured it being much darker and much thicker. Obviously the elves were much different in the book as well.

I agree that the barrel scene was kind of cheesy.

Even though I loved how the dragon scenes were ultimately portrayed, I still wish they had been more true to the book scene between Smaug and Bilbo. Why did Smaug call Thorin, "Oakenshield"?? That nickname was earned after Smaug had taken the lonely mountain.

Lakewood was right on the money.

I honestly didnt care for the addition of Sauron to the Hobbit movies.

Despite all my nicknack complaints, the movie as it stands alone from the books is still pretty good. Made a huge mistake seeing it in 2d. Spend the extra money for 3d

Smaug did seem pretty up to date on current events for a dragon that hadn't been seen for, what was it, 60 years. In addition to the Oakenshield nickname, he knew a dark power, aka Sauron, was returning.

Saw it in 2D as well. I'll go back and see it in 3D to see if that helps. I didn't like the first installment until I watched it several times.

I will for sure too. I might shell out the big bucks for Imax and 3D.

I like the capture scene better than the book where the elves get the dwarves.

I thought it was bullshite that the orcs came all the way to Laketown hunting Thorin. Seemed like an unnecessary stretch.

frick that elf chick. She completely screwed over Legolas, who she has known for 600 years and who she knows is in in love with her. She does it for a dwarf that she had one conversation with. That's fricked up. If I didn't know that legolas was in the LOTR movies, then I would have thought he was going to die there.

It pains me more than anyone that this film was dissapointing.

But it was. Needless drag. The bear. Kili's love affair. Tauriel. Legolas. The fight in laketown.

Etc.

None of it needed.
