PFF - Week 14 Secret Superstars

quote:

Corey White, CB, New Orleans Saints

With a big win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night, the New Orleans Saints seized control of the NFC South as the season draws to a close. That was in large part due to the play of quarterback Drew Brees, but plenty of other players on the roster stepped up, with no player from the Saints finishing the game with a grade lower than -1.0. Last season’s fifth round draft pick, and current starting cornerback, Corey White (+3.7) did more than that, finishing as our highest graded cornerback in Week 14.

He was one of three starting cornerbacks to not allow a reception on Sunday, with a pass breakup and two incompletions coming from the three passes into his coverage. That gave him perfect Yards Per Coverage Snap and Coverage Snaps Per Reception averages of 0.0. The pass breakup came on 1st-and-20 with 14:28 left in the game, with White getting him arm between receiver Ted Ginn and the ball on a hitch route. It all added up to White having the highest graded game of his career, playing at a level the Saints will be hopeful he can maintain down the stretch.

a few people on this board bashed the hell out of him after the 2nd Atlanta game.

its as if they expected greatness on every play. Imagine that.

I'd just hope those same guys would stop by here and give him props when he does a good job, like in this thread for instance.

Awesome job by White. He's made some mistakes over his first year and a half, but I love the way he plays.

If he keeps it up, we can put off drafting a CB for another year. Lewis + a White playing well + PRob coming back (people forget that he was solid under GW) + Greer coming back probably around midseason.

I wouldn't go that far. Can never have enough good db's.

Enough can not be said for him stepping up and playing well. This means we can play Vaccaro back at his natural position.

This will be huge adding in just getting Harper back and the continued play of Jenkins.

my thought exactly

just not forced to use a 1st on one at least. Loomis generally gets the holes filled to enable best-player-available approach as much as possible

One of the most impressive things about this team is DEPTH. They fully buy into the team concepts... like Next Man Up!

Saints are the kings of small school players! White is from Samford. Less than 3000 undergrads. I'm thinking of writing a letter to Reiprish to let him know how much we recognize and appreciate the job his crew is doing. It would be a blow to lose him to a GM job.

Uh I don't know about that. At Atlanta he got eaten alive. I guess I can't knock just him for Seattle because everyone sucked arse.
But, that said, he stepped up big time for Carolina and I hope he continues that kind of play.

As much as I like Corey white, I'll never love him as much as PFF does.

The easy INT drop in the 1st Q vs. Seattle is still in my craw right now. Could have been a game changer.

I still think we need another quality corner (and I'd rather have young guys who we draft that eat up less cap space than FAs), but I think we can definitely hold off on drafting one until the 3rd or 4th.

I'm pretty set in my belief that our draft should look like this:

1: T
2: WR
3: CB/C
4: CB/C
5: LB
6: BPA of WR, RB, LB

He had a rough first half against Atlanta, but he's bounced back since then. I don't like him (or really Robinson either) as a starter next year, but he will provide great depth. One thing we all know about the Saints and drafting is that they never go into a draft thinking they have to take certain positions at certain times. It will be strictly BPA at every pick. So far, I'd say it's worked out well for us for the most part.
