Devin Voorhies Question

Lately the mood has been positive around here after this past weekend (it was a welcomed sight) and that BEAUTIFUL Ride4LSU thread, but more often than not, it's a sky is falling mentality. I'm trying really hard to procrastinate from studying and I was just wondering if anyone has seen him play IN PERSON? Not just a highlight film. I see the kid won Gatorade POY in MS, yet he barely gets brought up unless someone just casually mentions "Don't forget about Voorhies." He's not even ranked in Rivals top 250 (don't take too much stock into that but still), is he slow or what? Seems to have good size about him.
Also, where is he projected? We seem to be stacked at WR class coming in, and now with HOPEFULLY Adams on board and Paris most likely playing safety(I know he says he's going to play CB but R-Shep also said he was going to play QB) it seems we're pretty nice and deep at safety. So where does this guy project? Like it's always said, there are always a few guys that people just scratch their heads about how they aren't ranked higher, just seems like this is one of those guys.
Sorry for rambling guys, just trying to figure some stuff out about him and get a little encouragement going on for one of the guys

He's a great example of the early commit casualty. Ed Paris wasn't being talked about until Jamal Adams interest in LSU blew up.
Jacory Washington is another good example.
A lot of people are just focused on the next guy. That's why a lot of recruits wait to announce.

Voorhies will be a safety and one hell of one. He does suffer the early commit casualty since he committed almost a year and a half ago. It's more awesome that you don't hear anything about him, visiting schools or even talking about others.
People think our DB class will be loaded if we bring in Brown and Adams, and the possibility of Adoree. I don't think people truly realize how loaded this DB class is going to be

Seems that way. We don't even need Adoree to be stacked. But if we got him...
I was talking to a friend about 2015 defense overall, but also the defensive backfield. This is if we land Adoree, which I understand is tough but not out of the realm of possibility.
Mills SR
White JR
Robinson JR
Brown So
Jackson So

That is 4 5-stars with RR being somewhat overlooked. Even without Jackson, that's still 3 out of 5. I've never seen a group of CB's with as much talent, size, and speed as that in college football EVER. I could go on a rant about the whole defense that year if players keep progressing, but I'll save it for now

Feel bad for Mills. I can't see Mills staying on the field with those guys, even if he's a leader.

I think Mills moves back to safety. He played it a little bit near the end of the year and wasn't too bad

Oh mills will get the #18 jersey after welter next year and he WILL be on the field.

I think he is a more natural safety, I also like him as a blitzing type nickel/dime guy. Is good at run support. But even then 2015 Safety:
Thompson SR
Jefferson JR
Paris So
Adams So
Voorhies So
It was talked about the other day how many schollies we have locked up in our DB's, just can't get everyone on the field

I agree wholeheartedly with you. He got exposed a bit against Arkansas, but I think he played great against A&M and really had a big hand in our defense playing lights out and covering the slot to allow extra guys to contain Manziel.

I saw him in person this year. Specifically stopped in Woodville to watch him on my way down to BR. Only stayed for 3qtrs.
I wish I had seen him last year (when he was offered) because the big rant on him is improvement. I saw a stud who has the athleticism to make up for a lot of refinement. Those guys don't grow on trees. And the instinct for the ball, on either side, was impressive. He wasn't always making plays a la Honey Badger, but he was always putting himself in the best position to make a play. Always around the ball & action type of kid. And since that can't be taught, he's a gem if you ask me.

Thanks for sharing. I do like very "active" players. That's something that gets lost with many players and evaluators. Like you said, can't be taught..some people just have that "knack" to make things happen. And when they have special physical abilities combined with that knack, that makes players elite and special.

My goodness, John Battle has got to be the most overlooked stud in the history of LSU. He pretty much never gets mentioned by LSU fans when projecting our future secondary.
And he is a dominant talent.

yes, Battle and Voorhies can be put in the same catagory on several things! Overlooked and underrated being two of them IMHO.
FYI, think Battle is getting his 4th star today!!

Voorhies is a stud athlete. He could play safety, wr, or rb. With some bulk maybe lb. I still think he probably sticks at safety. Paris and brown at cb. Adams, battle, voorhies safety. Adoree at cb/wr...this is more of just speculation....can't see keeping an athlete as good as adoree off the field. We will find a way for him to contribute at cb or on offense/special teams. He's unreal.
