When I first ate at Berns 20 years ago it was special. Now that there are so many "quality" top of the line steakhouses it has lost its luster to me but like many places, if you enjoy dinning in an institution you should enjoy the experience.

Bern's does still offer the best steak in Tampa in my opinion but you are right there are many excellent steakhouses now so its really splitting hairs to determine who is best.

The price point being similar I give Bern's the nod because of the dessert room and wine cellar tour. I'm not sure if they currently have the record but Bern's did have the largest privately held wine collection on the planet. It's not often you can see and put your hands on a bottle of wine made when Lincoln was in office but you can do this at Berns. The dessert room is a classic and Bern's is just an experience like no other in Tampa.

Does St. Pete do fireworks, etc for New Years? Looking at staying at the Vinoy Resort.

They did a big show at the St. Pete Pier and throughout the area last year. I'm sure something will be going on near the Vinoy.

Bern's

Agree with this choice; however, at this point it might be hard to get a reservation for new year's eve or day. I believe you can eat at the bar or you could try Side Berns which is less formal and located next door. Oh and I don't care how full you might be, do the dessert room. I had a coffee there that was unreal.

Can you add a note about the Under Armour All American game on January 2nd? A lot of high profile LSU recruits are playing and many are expected to announce their commitments at the game. I think the stadium is only 30 minutes or so away.

Anyone know if they'll add more flights out of NOLA or BTR? Fares not looking too good right now.

If you're doing Bern's with a group, get a GIANT cut for the whole table to share. Trust me.

The Columbia in Ybor is absolutely worth it.

And of course...Mons and 2001.

Yes and south tampa is the place to go , mcdintons , Jackson's on Barbour island , yard of ale . Yo or has a lot of bars and clubs , it's the poor mans bourbon street . The beaches are close and the UA game is the day after the outback bowl . There is a lot to do and something for everyone . The airport is 5 minutes from the stadium also

No , if you stay in Cw it would be tough to go out drinking and then get back , it would be like 45 minutes away . That's one hell of a cab ride .

Lovely, the Rocky Point location is newer and somewhat nicer than the Harbour Island location.

Berns is better than any chain for the wine list alone (which is, by the way, one of the best in the Southern United States). If you've got the money, Berns is the best food you can buy in town (ethnic foods excepted -- there are some dope Cuban sandwich shops). Just because you can't afford it doesn't mean it isn't the best.

You obviously haven't been to DTSP in five years. It's Tampa nightlife, with the enormous advantage of not being full of people from Tampa.

Saying berns is the best is an opinion . I have been there a few times and the best thing there is the dessert bar .

People have asked about hotels (I live in Tampa)... Your best bet as far as hotels are in downtown Tampa at any of the hotels, the nicest is the Marriott (and is on the waterfront), or the Hilton. I live in downtown Tampa, and you are not far from anything if you stay in this area.

Another location for decent hotels is in the Rocky Point area.

Both areas are not far from the stadium.

If you elect to stay near the coastal beaches, you will be about a 45 minute drive from the stadium.
