Is this saying true in the case of Auburn and Alabama for LSU? Does Auburn being strong (again) slightly weaken Alabama as far as recruiting Alabama in-state talent? FSU being strong may also spread the Alabama state talent a little bit thinner.

Maybe not with this 2014 recruiting class since most of the hay is already in the barn, but in 2015 and going on forward, recruiting in the state of Alabama will get interesting and may benefit our Tigers at least a bit. But LSU still needs to work on better locking down Louisiana talent to take advantage of the recruiting competitiveness in the state of Alabama.

My problem with both schools are that they are both the most penalized programs in NCAA history. They are bitter enemies and will do anything to beat the other. Never forget that, LSU fans.

With both being good (or better) that means they fight each other more, but we also have a higher chance of losing one of our guys to either school.

A strong Auburn is always best for a strong LSU.

Auburn is already recruiting well in Alabama, they have 5/10 of the Rivals top 10 in Bama this year, while Alabama has 3. Alabama is recruiting nationally right now, and basically targeting every top kid in the country regardless of state, so I'm not sure a resurgent Auburn really changes that much.

while Saban's there and they are putting guys in the league like they are, it doesn't change anything….

So if Bama and Auburn are so penalized they are their own worst enemy. If the enemy of my enemy is my friend would that make Bama my friend? Of my enemy?

They're both our enemies and our friends.

Since Bama took two from LA, we went to Texas and grabbed a few. You can't have em all.

Well as you see with almost all the 3+ star recruits in Louisiana, each of them have an offer from Alabama. Not to try and pull all the Louisiana talent to Alabama, but to simply try and keep it out of LSU's hands. I know that Alabama does truly want specific guys, but they offer alot of Louisiana talent just to try and keep them from LSU. It's not just Louisiana recruits either, its almost every player LSU offers, Alabama offers as well. Some of those players going to Alabama over LSU may not see much, if any playing time. If Alabama can keep the talent from other teams, they will. What is sad is some of the players going to Alabama are going just because they think it will get them a ring. Well, after this season lets see what happens next year.

So yes in my humble opinion, Auburn, Florida teams, and any other teams in a state on the border of Alabama or in the SEC that are doing well, will begin to get some of that talent. Like Mizzou and A&M. But I also believe that ESPN is very bias towards Alabama.

As previously stated, a strong AU helps LSU. It creates a weaker Alabama. AU dipped into LA a little for Reed and Greg Robinson, but they usually hit GA more for OOS recruits. But if they can weaken Alabama, it limits Bama's attractiveness for OOS recruits, and Bama targets LA more for OOS recruits.

I agree with the premise of the OP. While Auburn will be a tougher game Bama may become slightly easier. Hoping that we could then beat them both.

Saban probably has more connections in LA than does Malzahn (I'm guessing this is the case). And it may be that Saban will take players from LA even if they'll never be major contributors just to make/maintain in-roads.

The team that could benefit us most by becoming strong again would be Tenn (rivals with both Bama and UF).

I'd take LSU having another tough game if it means Alabama has to have one, too. That's how much I hate the Tide. Now we just need Tennessee to get their ship in order...

espn is Alabama's greatest recruiting pimp...did you happen to watch college game day yesterday. Bama would have gladly paid a million dollars for that infomercial

It doesn't hurt that Rece Davis graduated from Bama. But, with the coming of the SEC Network, Alabama is being marketed heavily by ESPN. Saban is their boy and Feinbaum is their mouthpiece. This was happening before the advent of the SECN.

Yes, he did graduate from bama..... but he does a good job. I don't think it's his fault that espn was on the bama train. It was the lack of anyone beating them.

Remember the USC West love affair?

Alabama is recruiting extremely well nationally (just look at the 2 they've taken from LA), so losing out on some in-state guys for them isn't a huge deal. However, I'd hate to base the majority of my recruiting approach on grabbing out of state guys. They are generally much tougher to sign than in-state guys. IIRC, Florida did a lot of this towards the end of the Meyer tenure, and now they have very little talent on the offensive end (which should never happen if you're UF) and are watching the resurgence of FSU.

All told, a strong Auburn helps LSU. IMO, what hurts LSU is a REALLY strong Texas and Texas A&M. For decades, LSU has been able to get great players out of Texas. Losing those guys would be a huge blow.

Not if they keep coming into LA pilfering 5 star talent.
