Is a weekend like this even worth attempting to deer hunt?

I've been out in rain, but this looks like a storm with wind and such.

Thoughts?

I'm going out, probably sit in a stand a little bit then do some walking around looking for deer and hogs.

Can't kill em if you aren't in the woods!

You have any box stands? I wouldn't go sit in a ladder or climber in this shite.

The deer have to eventually eat. If you can tough it out in the stand and be there when a break in the bad weather comes through, it's on

If you have any kind of cover to hunt in I would be there. They have to eat eventually. I love hunting in nasty weather!

Of all the deer I've killed, I have never killed one in my house.

Gotta go to know.

I got my stand I'm headed to in the am. River on one side. 4yo clearcut on another. Thick arse 6-7 yo pine stand on another side. Then my little opening full of white oaks and a few wild persimmons.

thats what im thinking too

was thinking aobut taking my shotgun though i've never deer hunted with it. got some 00 buckshot.

whats the longest range shot you would feel comfortable taking with a shotgun?

what about shooting hogs with a shotty? got a good chance of seeing a few of those and want to make sure I kill those bastards

About 50 yards with my 12 gauge and 000. It patterns extremely well. With most guns 30-40 yards is about the max. Most people make the mistake of shooting too high. The old timers at the camp always said to touch the bottom of the deer with the top of the barrel. I aim where I would aim with my bow.

With buckshot, I do not recommend unless theyre small. Buckshot won't make it to the meat on a big pig, much less kill it. Put over 50 00 buckshot in a 300 pound sow from 10 yards and less on a safari style charge, and the only thing that stopped it was a full load to the head knocking it out and another point blank load in the head.

You can definitely lay pigs down with buckshot. Shoot them in the head.
