Just picked up for PS4 because I was so jaded about all the releases since mw2

As you may well know, I am some what of an expert killing machine when in comes to these games

I need someone to breakdown the point system for me, any tips or tricks you know so far, and most importantly, which assault rifles with which perks work best.

I'm at level six and some of the weapons I get killed with seem beastly compared to what I have available

I used the Vector a lot when I first started. All of my squad points went to that gun and the class itself. Play various game types early on to unlock challenges to level up faster.

Yeah, you can do challenges and unlock some cool looking equipment with clans. I've yet to try it though.

I haven't explored all of the assault rifles yet. So far, the only assault rifle class I've spent points on is the Honey badger since it has a built in silencer and doesn't need one added.

Also, run the perk "deadeye" as soon as you unlock it. Best perk in the game, IMO.

And you can unlock any perk you want right away if you spend squad points. However, you can still unlock them at levels without spending points.

Penn. Get into combat training on local once you enter multi. You can try every gun on each map against comp players. The Remington R5 has a good bit of power but slower fire rate. You can also add burst fire to almost any SMG or AR. Check out the marksman rifles too. Lots of damage, but single shot. Its a good "in between" on some of the bigger maps.

You can level up your characters and earn squad points pretty quickly by playing the Squads game mode [which is like Special Ops from MW2 and MW3].

You can also unlock several characters and choose different loadouts [like Marksman, Heavy Gunner, etc] that will give you different weapons and different perks to begin with. That way you can get a feel for what you like and what you want to unlock for your main character.

i've just been using the SA805 AR, which is one that is automatically unlocked on most classes. use quickdraw and any other combination of perks.

i use the vector and K7 SMGs with rapid fire and perks like marathon, agility, and steady aim.

somebody mentioned the deadeye perk, which i think is the last one you unlock. i think it's like stopping power from the previous games.

Ghosts pisses me off. I will hit someone twice with an M14 EBR (which in real life has a .308 caliber round) in their center mass and they don't die but you get hit in the arm with a 9mm from a SIG P226 and you die instantly.

I actually own an M-14 and I can tell you that nobody is getting up from a .308 round. Total bullshite.

The Squad points system is pretty different from past CoDs. The most annoying thing about it is that you will end up having to spend a TON of points trying to find out what you like. You can play privately against bots if you want, but (IMO) it's a total waste of time unless you have absolutely no idea what type of CoD player you are.

Generally in this game, ARs are superior. NOT always. Plenty of people, me included, have had some success with SMGs but the maps have a lot of really long lines of sight, and I feel like you have to go way out of your way to avoid them, and it's really frustrating. Unless you are dead-set at using an SMG (I have always been an SMG player, even when playing competitive in the past: GBs, League Play on BO2, etc., and even I have given them up for this title) I highly advise switching to an AR. The most diverse appears to be the Honey Badger. It's pretty good. It feels like an AR that shoots a little farther. It has a built-in silencer so the stats are a little skewed from other guns; it's good. I like it with grip and a red dot (I hate closed iron sights). My personal favorite is the AK-12 (silencer/grip) because it is great close up and far away. I have 3000ish kills with it at this point, and I'm pretty sure it will be my weapon of choice for the remainder of this game unless it's nerfed or something. A lot of people like the Remington too. It has a small clip but it's pretty high damage per bullet and doesn't have much damage drop off at range (2-3 bullets at max range) and has almost no recoil. Small clip and low ammo are it's biggest weakness. If you can feather the trigger well it's a good choice. I'm not really a fan of the rest but I know they're all pretty good.

Perk-wise, I'm at the point where I use pretty much the same perks on every class because I feel like they're absolutely necessary: Sound whoring in this game is OP. Period. The maps are not laid out with lanes like in previous CoD titles so the spawns are stupid and unpredictable. Even in gametypes like Domination it's really hard to "pin" teams in certain areas and stop them from spawning behind you, so I feel like it's absolutely 100% necessary to have Amplify and Dead Silence equipped on every class. Period. If you don't have a headset you are already at a huge disadvantage. It's possible to do well without sounds but you will be shot in the back a lot unless you can move pretty well around the edges of the back and avoid standard spawning areas. Another perk I always use is Focus. It reduces sway on all guns and (more importantly) stops flinching by A LOT. I can't find the video, but I saw one showing the difference on split-screen of recoil with and without it while being shot. The guy without it had his shots half a screen above the guy's head, and the other guy (who had it ON) only moved fractionally up, not even over his head. It's VERY important unless you aim at peoples feet all the time. I always use quickdraw, but I think this is just because I was so reliant on it playing competitive in BO2. It feels sluggish raising my gun without it, and I feel like I lose a lot of gun battles without it on. For this reason I stack it with ready up (aim faster after sprinting; it still goes slow if you have quickdraw on and come out of a sprint. Quickdraw only helps when standing still or walking). I like stalker a lot. Because you die so fast in Ghosts, a lot of people walk around corners aiming down the sight. Stalker helps you move faster while aiming. It helps a lot with ARs because you move slower while aiming than you do with SMGs. I have gotten where I can function without stalker (mainly because I use Amplify) and can save myself the 3 perk points.

I wish I had room in my setup for Slight of Hand. I feel like my #1 cause of death is having to reload, but it happens a lot less than the deaths from not using other perks, so I settle for going without it. Sometimes I use Specialist Package (perks for killstreaks rather than actual killstreaksS) and use SoH, Scavenger, Ping with Deadeye (chance of increased damage with every kill you stack) and Off the Grid (hide from SATComs) as the "Bonus" for hitting 12 (or something like that) kills. The other main reason I die is IEDs. Things are straight OP. They're like bouncing betties (or a little like claymores) from previous titles. They are seriously like invisible. They look like dirt on the ground. They make a sort of beeping sound if you come within like 5 meters of them (the kill range is like 2) but you can never tell exactly where they're sitting (and even if you can, usually it's too late because you're already sprinting). You can survive most of the time if you have a good reaction time and can jump backwards. Killstreak wise, I like SATcom, IMS (thing is a BEAST), Heli. I usually stick to specialist though.

Game modes.. I generally play Team Tac (I have 3 other friends who play with me often so we like not having terrible randoms), FFA if alone, or Domination. I would play ground war if they had it for 360.

I have plenty of friends who are successful without using some of the things I deem essential, but I just can't. My playstyle requires me to pretty much use all of this stuff, and I do very well. Take what I've said with a grain of salt, though. You can succeed using whatever you want. I'm merely sharing my experience and hoping to assist. I would offer to play with you and offer more pointers, but I play on 360.

Holy shite, I can't believe I just sat here for 15 minutes and typed all this shite.

When I started typing it I only intended to type like 3 small paragraphs. I got a little carried away. No, you don't have to read it.

The TL;DR version is:

Use ARs
Get a headset and sound whore with appropriate perks
