There is no such thing as a "quality" loss

I hate this argument. Bama fans love to use it to justify their 2011 NC that they didn't deserve, and surely will use it again this year should OSU and FSU fall (unlikely but it could happen). They will say "we barely lost to a top 5 team on the road blah blah blah..."
A loss is a loss. A failure. There is no such thing as a good loss. You failed to accomplish your goal, which is to win the game. A team should be judged based on what they accomplished, aka who they BEAT. Not who they almost beat.
Alabama has beaten some decent teams this year, but they have not beaten any great teams. Just like in 2011, they failed in their one big test. I know ESPN and the media will spin it another way but in reality, that's what happened.
Close does not mean anything in football. Again, a loss is a loss. A failure.

welp lets hope Florida State and OSU all win, so we don't have to worry about that..

No different from the "well we're undefeated in regulation" talk in 07.

Yeah. Winning 11 games in the Big 12 is more impressive than 11 games in the SEC. Totally.

Yeah, that's just wrong. I hate Bama as much as anybody, but there are respectable losses and there are bad losses.
For LSU this year:
Healthy Georgia: Respectable
Unhealthy Ole Miss: Not Respectable
On of those cost us a few places in the polls, one cost us quite a bit.

So if Team A lost to App State and Team B lost to Bama, and only one of these teams could go to the NCG and they had very similar SOS, you wouldn't be inclined to choose Team B since their loss was to a more quality team?

From what I take out of it is that when comparing a one loss team to an undefeated team...a loss is a loss, there is no quality loss. However that doesn't stop you from comparing losses.

Losing to a top 5 team on the road is not equal to losing to an unranked team at home, though.
Something has to account for that. It's not as black and white as you are making it out to be, though "quality" losses can be overstated at times.

I would judge it based on who they each beat. If team A lost to App State but beat a top 10 team during the season, but Team B lost to Bama and didn't have any marquee wins, then Team A would deserve it more.

well that was legit bc college football games used to end in ties (and perhaps they still should except for bowls)...
LSU would have been 11-0-2 going into the BCSNC and #1...

I said they have similar SOS.
I'm not comparing Boise St to an SEC school. More like Pac 12 vs SEC

I assume you're being sarcastic, in which case I agree. 11 SEC Ws > 11 B12 Ws most of the time. Depends on schedule though, obviously.
