Dallas officers wrote 37,000 fewer traffic tickets

LINK

Good thing? Bad thing? Should Baton Rouge PD shift to this tactic? I don't know if violent crimes have even dropped since they started this, and i'm too lazy to look.

The Dallas Police Department, like its counterparts in other big U.S. cities, has shifted resources to concentrate on fighting violent crimes and property crimes, offenses that are reported to the FBI and widely used to assess the overall safety of cities.

Good thing. Much better than how the former chief and mayor here addressed those pesky FBI crime stats by doing things like reporting armed robbery as petty theft, and rape as misdemeanor assault, etc.

Dallas is an awesome city. If they had a football team, I would think about moving there.

I've noticed that most Dallas cops are just generally cool people. My son has always waved to them, and he always gets big smiles and waves back...Highland Park cops will u-turn and give you a ticket if your inspection sticker is one month overdue.

It seems like when you wave to them, they get suspicious and want to pull you over

Definitely, but they won't. Too much money involved.

Wow. That's awesome. Let's assume 1 traffic ticket takes 10-15 minutes.

That saved Dallas an amazing 9,250 man hours.
Holy shite how many crimes could BR actually solve if they did this.

They wouldn't save any time. The void would obviously be filled playing on their laptops surfing the web reading forums and what not..

Are you sure about that? I ask, because I still know of one that I believe is in use on Lemmon Avenue by Love Field.

NOPD basically ignores all traffic violations unless it's caught by a camera, but that's more because they're lazy rather than they've shifted tactics.

I frequently see police actually patrolling neighborhoods a and business areas. Our neighborhood has a FB page where we communicate and tag our policy department. We always get a response right away and have had police respond to investigate suspicious people within 5 minutes. Never gotten a speeding ticket and I pretty much spend my day around the area in my car. I actually like our PD.
