For those of you who have seen Rummel and/or Byrd play, what do you think of this matchup?
I saw them both play, I think Rummel wins. they are the more talented team for sure.

my question... who would win 5A if there wasn't a split? i'd say parkway but rummel would have an argument too

Not sure I'd call them a "nobody" over that time period. But they definitely wouldn't have been as dominant as they were prior to 2004.

Had they remained in 5a they would have struggled mightily

I don't think Rummel would have lasted in a normal 5a.

Agreed.

I think Destrehan or Parkway are the teams to beat and would still be if the select schools were still in 5A.

They've beaten JC twice. Both on down years.

I've never seen Byrd play, but I heard they run a lot. Rummel with two weeks to prepare will be ready. They got their RB Fulton back just before the Scottlandville game, and he basically took that game over. He is what drives that offense. Rummel's defense has also gotten stronger as the season has come along. They made a few key stops in the St. Aug. game. Rummel will stack the box and dare Byrd to throw.

i wonder if anyone has Roth vs. J.T. debates... Roth does have one more title in the highest classification than Curtis

it's the best rivalry that doesn't play in Louisiana

Well no one could beat them. Not just CL. They had D-1 QBs and 12 other D-1 prospects on their teams. Now they are lucky to have 2-3.

And yes Curtis could compete in 5a every year. They are continuously funneling talent in, whereas ECA has gone dry compared to what they once were

I don't know why these two don't schedule each other regularly. I think there would be some great games. JT prob. does not want to lose any "future" recruits.

Byrd isn't a normal I-formation, run-heavy team that sometimes passes. They literally run the ball every play out of the wing T. 1st and 10, 2nd and 5, 3rd and 15, it doesn't matter.

The problem with defending the wing T is that there's so much pre-snap motion and misdirection. You think you know what play is coming, and then they hit you with a ball fake and the ball is going to the complete opposite side of the field.

HC did a good job defending it for the most part. Our offense just shite the bed.
