Nall?
Yep. He was the funniest player ever to speak at a Coaches Committee meeting. Laval asked him to tell the crowd about himself and within 30 seconds Nall took the microphone out of Laval's hands and talked for about 10 minutes. Laval was standing behind him rolling his eyes the whole time.

He got to talking about managing turf grass, etc, and he had the entire group laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes.

He was the closest thing to a real-life Gomer Pyle I've ever heard talk. I kept expecting him to say "Shazzam!"

He was from Dothan, Alabama.

I worry / wonder what it will be like for a right / left fielder to run full speed on grass to get to a ball in foul territory, and then try to stop on a completely different surface.

It's not anything to worry about. The new stuff plays pretty close when crossing over. Stopping on the artificial stuff isn't much different than natural, even when it's wet.

Looks don't matter at all compared to player safety concerns.

Maybe they should use the stuff like they have in the kid's play areas?

It's not like the foul territory grass was in poor shape. Clearly, it could be maintained.

As someone who walked on and around that grass every home game this past season, yes, it was in poor shape.
