Alex Box getting artificial turf in foul territory

Construction started today, I'm told, on new artificial turf at Box in all foul territory. The rubber warning track is being removed and it will be ready to go by January 1.

Not sure if I should care or not. But interesting.

They already had it in foul territory around the infield.

It'll never be ready in time.

It is currently artificial just around the plate but it will be artificial from foul pole to foul pole on completion. With BP, fungos and the suites it has been very difficult for the grounds crew to keep the grass dense enough in these areas. In theory it is a good plan I'm interested to see how it actually looks once completed.

Pretty sure that's false

Anyone know what company is doing it?

That's because the grass would always get torn up around home plate.
Any word on a new batter's eye? Team flags for the rest of the SEC? Multistory restaurant/bar in right-center field?

They had it behind home plate. They did not have it around the infield.

Geosurfaces out of Baton Rouge. At least that is what was on the shirts and equipment for the guys I saw out there today. This is the same company that replaces the natural grass at Tiger Stadium after the Bayou Country show every year. LSU did a similar project at Tiger Park last year for softball before the season on the area behind home plate and it looked so good most people didn't notice it was artificial.

Are they finally replacing that crap, such an eyesore

Probably not. I'm sure they're using the same excuse.
