gift for my dad. I've had good luck with Dewalt tools but heard Milwaukee is legit. Any reviews on an 18 volt cordless sawzall are appreciated.

I have always used the dewalt s for the cordless they have held up well for the type of work I do .Now for the corded models I like the porter cables.

An extra battery; cordless sawsalls drain batteries faster than green grass through a goose.
Both brands are good.

I use and like Dewalt. Amazon is running a 25$ off 100$ on dewalt tools at the moment, FYI.

I wouldn't buy a cordless sawzall. Those things, to be worth a frick, draw a ton of current.

Milwaukee is the company that created the recip/sawzall. Milwaukee is the only brand I buy really though so I'm biased. Not a particular fan of the yellow tool company though.

But an 18v portable sawzall is severely limiting, with power and time before a battery change. Good for trimming trees and small, quick cuts and that's about it.

A 18v doesn't fair so well cutting through metal. They do make a 28v sawzall, but it is pretty heavy. Not bad for short use though.

I'd personally go with an 18v Milwaukee and a chop saw if doing metal and wood, etc.

Dewalt 18v xrp. Used one for years in the fire sprinkler trade. Very reliable
