A subpar LSU defense shut down one of the nation's premier passing offenses (A&M) and rushing offenses (Auburn).

How does that happen?

I know, mysterious. I'd say it's because both teams are finesse teams that play in space, so to speak. That is, they don't rely on power. LSU, with their small, fast DEs and LBs does very well with those kind of offenses. Elite power offenses are what we have trouble with - at least this year.

Bama is just the opposite. They can't handle offensive quickness and misdirection. Saban just doesn't build that way. Those guys are hauling around more body mass, and the quick up-tempo eats them up.

Wasn't the weather horrible for both of those games?

it was subpar from our / LSU's standards, but we were 3rd in the SEC vs the pass and 7th in the SEC vs the rush...so overall, not that bad.

Looked a lot worse on the field than the numbers say.

Auburn playing their worst football early in the season. JFF was not the same after the auburn loss, but chavis sure put a hell of a game plan together for both games

Nothing weird about it. Against Auburn the offense jumped way ahead and took them out of their rhythm. In the 2nd half of that game Auburn dominated us and we got a late field goal to hold on.Georgia with Gurley and crew ran at us which opened up the deep pass. Ole Miss and Bama ran it down our throats until we committed to stop it then they threw it over our heads. Same thing the Hogs did. Aggies didnt try to run it on us and Florida had no ability to pass. Miss State gashed us until we got a few breaks in the 2nd half and got on a roll

What about OM?? If it weren't for that game I would say Les did a tremendous job this year, being how we lost soooooo much talent from last year. I mean yeah it was a good year with all the losses but not great. That lose was just a poor job by our staff getting these guys ready. Ok if OM would of had a full roster but they didn't and no excuse for how they played. Then again in the Ark game! We are def missing on the field leaders! I think Beckwith and RR can be that next year. And on offense looks like we have a field Gen! That cat was calm and collected and threw with some touch and pretty good accuracy! That throw to TD was from the other side of the field...... Not easy!! Needs to work on his strength this year and get that arm a lil more juice! Some core work outs would help. I think Landry comes back, he's been saying he wants to graduate and if I'm Hill I would come back too! Just me though, well because I don't think they take him in the first because of the off the field stuff but with another year to prove all dough tees wrong he could be a 1st rounder. He's will be a very good pro back! Just perfect for the pros not blazing fast but hits the right holes almost every time and his cutback vision is off the charts! Wouldn't mind N.O. Getting him! Wow a backfield with LF and Hill???? Crazy!!!

The Ole Miss game is one fans can legitimately be upset about. No way should the Tigers lost to a sub par team that was hobbled by injuries.

The UGA loss and Bama loss were against equal/superior teams.

Our defensive personnel to me seems to be built to stop spread teams easier. We've had problems against teams that line it up in the I formation ( UGA 13, Fla 12, Bama 12 & 13), but handled spread teams such as TCU, A&M, and state because of our smaller, fast linebackers.

poster obviously left the game early.

The late drive by Auburn had me a little worried had they scored, but it was late. Then it would have taken a successful onsides kick to really make it interesting. But the tigers held them on the 4th down and all was well. Yet in that 2nd half Auburn was gashing us bad.

WTF?
AU scored last and LSU didn't kick one FG.

BTW, 35-21 final isn't exactly holding on and 14-21 2nd half scoring ain't domination, unless you got agenda.

Chavis likes the smaller faster linebackers and ends. This philosophy does not work unless you have supeior interior line play. We have lost that he needs to recruit bigger LBs who can take on blocks when he DTs aren't getting it done.

Sorry I was obviously wrong. I do remember all the momentum had swung to auburn after we took a 21 point lead.
Also, I never leave early. I will admit since 1989 I did not attend the 1995 Arkansas game
