So Les Miles goes for a 57 yd field goal...

...and the result plays out like it did yesterday. LSU loses. And he passes on a high percentage short FG attempt to go up two scores with 7 min left, calls a bad play and gets stopped short on 4th and 1.
Does he get blasted here while Saban basically gets a free pass? Is there a true double standard here? I think Saban was the reason they lost that game.

he would be getting piled on from every direction. here, espy, CBS Sports, Brando, Finebaum, Bill King etc. Pretty much any and every sports news outlet be it radio, print, TV would be questioning his sanity and the direction of the program.

maybe the worst coached saban game i've ever seen (9-6 also in the discussion) but when you've won 3 out of 4 titles coming into that game you may have an extra amount of leeway compared to the average coach

Actually I was thinking the same about that last drive.
Saban has had a less harsh reception on this board than he deserves for blowing this one. I know he's getting blasted by the gumps. Makes a nice transition to a 9 mil a year Texas job...

No way does Miles not kick that field goal with 7 min. He is way too conservative in that type of situation. Conservative might not even be the right word I am looking for.
Saban's ego got the best of him. Instead of playing smart, he tried to rub it in Auburn's face for them just getting stopped on 4th and he wanted to show that his team was better and could get a first and it backfired.
Then, his OCD kicked in and wanted that one second. He asked for the review and got the one second. Should have just went into OT and played it their.
