Ryan Anderson as the efficiency difference maker

I was just messing around on NBA.com's stats section this morning, and I was looking at some player stats from before and after Anderson's return.
Davis' numbers before
Davis After Ryno's Return
i think the thing that stands out most is that AD's usage has gone down dramatically and this has dropped his points and rebounds per game but his efficiency has risen a good bit.
same thing with Jrue
before
after
though Jrue's stats are actually rising despite a decrease in usage. his effective and true FG percentages are up also. pretty good stuff since ryno's return. i didn't feel like doing evans or gordon, but i'm sure it's much of the same.
one thing that did stand out overall looking at some of the advanced stats like O and D ratings was how piss poor this team is on the road compared to home. hopefully they fix that soon.

It's amazing to me how much of a difference Ryno makes. If anything, it stresses the importance of having a serviceable backup 3-pt shooter/stretch player during Ryno's absences.

It's so nice to have him back. The team looks much more complete.

I thought he wasnt going to help anything?
Just like Gordon last year, his presence helps the other pieces fit. Still think Monty can tweak the rotations some more. But the players are starting to gel a bit and I liked how he got the Final 5 (frack me!) on the court together so often last night.
Now if they could just figure out how to cover a pick and roll....

I think certain posters will do their best to avoid this topic now

Check out the pace. Our pace since Ryno has returned would put us top 10 in the league.

go figure. i make a topic with stats and everything to create discussion and yet it's avoided like the plague. that's the last time i try to act like a serious poster here

Don't know how many times I said this would be the case during the first 9 games
And OP it's *Anderson

First of all, kudos for your excellent work and post. I'm misty eyed.
But, cereally, your point is well taken. The idea all along has been that we needed additional talent to really prove Anderson's worth. The fact that he missed nine games actually gave us a sample, although small, that proves the hypothesis. When he's available, he changes the floor.

Fight the good fight.
Just looking up league wide numbers over the last 6 games:
Pelicans have the 3rd best offense rating, 12 best defense rating, 6th best Net Rating, 3rd best AST/TO Ratio, best OREB %, 13th DREB %, 6th REB %, 8th eFG%, 8th TS%.
Small sample size is small and competition probably plays a role in this too, but those are some damn impressive numbers since Anderson has been back.
If we look at lineup data, the Final 5 are 132 ORating, 116 DRating in 51 minutes.
Anderson is at least a +6 with every major contributor on the team except Morrow (-14…weird). Most importantly he is +11 with Davis in 108 minutes.
The defensive numbers are higher than you would like with Anderson, but I'm not sure he deserves all the blame given the poor scheme and the fact that Aminu is the only regular with a DRating lower than league average.

that is strange. i'd probably attribute that to the fact that both are below average on D and both play the 3 point shooter role on offense. hopefully with a larger sample size we see that go up.

I don't want to come off like I'm anti-Anderson, which is why I didn't say anything on this thread yet. But if your point is that the team is better with Anderson playing.. they yeah, I would hope so. You take the 3rd or 4th best player off any team, then I think they would suffer and the other players would be less efficient (pressing to make up the difference).

my point was that there were people on this board who did not think Anderson would make a big enough difference to start winning games. i think he's done more than that, and some of these more advanced metrics show it. just something for discussion on yesterday, which was a slow day on the board. but nobody joined, so whatever

I agree. Like I said, this roster was assembled with Anderson being part of the formula.

Yep. I hope so.
Looking at Morrow's lineup numbers, this seems to be more of a Morrow problem. His only positive net ratings are with Amundosn (+1.5 in 44 min) and Onuaku (+8 in 13 min). -11 with Davis and Holiday, -8 with Evans, -26 with Gordon, -6 with Smiht, -38 with Aminu.
The weird thing when looking at his On/Off numbers is how bad the offense is with him on the floor. Not even cracking 100 ORating when he steps on the court, up to 108 when he is on the bench. Some of this has to be from just how pitiful the 2nd unit was the first 9 games of the year.
So I went and looked at On/Off splits from before and after Anderson.
Before Ryno
After Ryno
Much, much better recently. More in line with the all offense, no defense rep. The Evans jump is also ridiculous these last few games.
