CBS Sucking The Life Out Of Games

Yeah yeah, I'll get this out of the way now:
OP is a pussy; TL;DR; GFY; Loser; Not a Real Fan; etc etc.
Now that the usual redneck tripe is out of the way for the white trash that posts here far too often, I'm going to rant.
I appreciate, as an LSU fan, that our team is one that garners extremely high ratings when we play. Great for the school obviously. Naturally, this puts us in high demand for the CBS games nearly every Saturday.
However, when CBS televises a game, it is just fricking brutal. It seems often there is no rhyme or reason for the long delays and TV timeouts. When you are watching at home, which it is obvious the vast majority of TD.com posters do, it is not as painful. You can distract yourself with getting a beer, chasing kids, groping the wife/gf or nipple twisting with your buds. But when you are in the stadium standing and cheering, it is brutal. Literally kills the momentum of the game for both teams, often at crucial times.
I could list specific examples, but I would prefer to highlight these three instead.
Yesterday during the game, there was a point where there were two football plays run in 15 minutes of real time. Yes, you read that right. There was another instant where two football plays were run in 11 1/2 minutes of real time. The culprit? One team scoring within a minute before a quarter ended.
Team scores. TV timeout. Kickoff (touchback). TV Time out, with only about 30 seconds before end of quarter. One play is run. End of quarter, another long TV timeout. 15 minutes. Why the need for a TV timeout when you know there will be another commercial within 1-3 plays by the offense? ESPN has greatly improved the game-watching experience by cutting into this type of BS.
Give you another/better example, from the Florida game. I don't remember at what point of the game when this happened, but again, I timed it. Three football plays were run in a 22 minute time span at one point in the second half. LSU was dominating at this point in the game so I guess they needed to milk commercials. I literally nearly left the game after that. Brutal.
PS - I stayed until the end for both games.

I concur. CBS butchered the game experience.

yeah, it's frustrating. noticed it at the A&M game as well.

TV time out = revenue
Why would they try to limit their timeouts when they know they can maximize their profits
I know, it sucks. I hate it too, but what an you do about it

Well, in all fairness, with a little creativity, you can do pretty much all of those things in the stadium if you choose to do so.

I understand that LSU needs the $$$ but I agree. The TV time-outs have gotten out of hand. Is there any rule regarding minimum or maximum TV delays? I haven't personally checked this but it seems to me that there are more TV delays in college football than in the pros.

Everything you just said....
I was going to post later. I could not believe the time wasted and killed inside that stadium last night. The red hat was constantly on the field every time you looked up.
The 15 minutes between two plays is inexcusable. Then a couple minutes later I think Porter went down. Another tv timeout. The Mett went down. Another tv timeout.
I seriously think that these interruptions really do have terrible effects on an offense Rythym. I hat everything about the pace of yesterday's game. Just terrible. I was sayin it the entire time in the stadium too. I got bored for a good while.

I love it when people answer their own questions and don't even realize it... they do it for the Money stupid! I don't like it either but it is the fuel that makes the SEC run.

The Texas A&M game was especially bad.

well said. believe me....it's brutal when you watch it on tv too.
this needs to go viral.

The way the two teams were playing, primarily running between tackles, short passes, not many incompletions, etc, that game should have ended by 430, at the latest.
I understand the need for revenue since that is the ONLY game they show that day (usually), but damn.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons the SEC, specifically, is struggling with attendance?
I am going to think twice before going to another game I know is on CBS next year.

I agree. That game yesterday had segments where it felt like there was 1 play for every 3 tv timeouts. It was awful.

Get out of my head EZ. 1000% agree.
There were points in the game yeaterday I just wanted to leave because of all the interruptions.

That was actually a third one from yesterday I wanted to post, but I figured I'd give another example from the UF game.
I did not attend the aTm game, so I have no idea how brutal that was. I prepped for Tgiving during the breaks in that game.

I asked the question earlier if yesterday set a record for TV commercials... it got really out of hand. The SEC needs to put an end to this.
Posted on 11/30/13 at 9:57 am to EZE Tiger Fan
The A&M half time was 25 minutes long.

CBS is not only awful but then you have to listen to Verne. Now I'm sure he didn't do the game yesterday, but most 2:30 games he does. I really can't wait for the CBS/SEC contract to end.

Black Friday dudes. They made a fortune off that game. Like I said I don't like it either because I sat in that stadium with my thumb up my arse during those long breaks...

Sucks the life out of my DVR too. It's gotten to the point that I need to set it for 4.5 hours to be sure to get the whole thing, with 4-hour non-OT games seemingly the norm.
