Meet the "Freedom Ship": a mile long floating city for 50,000 people

LINK

quote:

The incredible mile-long floating CITY - complete with schools, a hospital, parks and an airport for its 50,000 residents

The Freedom Ship is 25 storeys high and would feature a casino, an art gallery, a park and a shopping centre

The concept, designed by a Florida-based company would cost $10billion if was commissioned to be built

The vessel could house 50,000 people but it would contain additional space to hold an extra 30,000 visitors

The ship would constantly sail around the world - doing a full circuit every two years - but would be too large to enter any ports

I'm not sure about this. Seems like too many potential problems - sinking, planes crashing into it, power failure, plumbing issues.

There is some sort of Discovery show on this ship, or one extremely similar.

Had suggested problems and solutions.

If it's made incredibly lavishly and marketed towards rich people as their own private "Elysium" it will be considered poor tastes- the rich not sharing.

If it's made incredibly lavishly and marketed as a housing project-type deal it will be a floating island of burning refuse within a year.

I wonder the amount of fuel it would burn just to make that thing move. It is huge!

That thing is incredibly cool, and will be built one day, just not in the near future.

Just looking at that gives me anxiety. Living on a ship with that many people? Frick that.

One major concern. If it's too big to dock anywhere, what happens when a big storm forms?

Now all they need is to find a mile+ long dry dock to build the damn thing. I wish them luck.

It could be build in sections and join together at sea. This is an old idea that was put together about 10+ years ago.

Some of our modern ship-building techniques are beyond incredible.

Seems like it should be solar powered of something.

Maybe, but I would it could be a destination for the super rich. Renounce citizenshipin their country and set up shop here. Provided it had the right tax free incentives. I am sure certain freedoms would be one of the major selling points.
