Reading all this speculation on whether OBJ, Landry, Hill, Blue, Hilliard, Freak, Ego, La'el, Welter (joke), and any other folks I am forgetting being a surprise to leave just really surprises me. They are ALL gone! The NFL is the ultimate goal. MONEY baby! They played their hearts out for LSU so it is there turn to make money. Why do any of you think they wouldn't go and make a living, doing what they love and can do well, and get paid? Any of you would do the same. Last year should have sold it to all LSU fans, that is what we are selling as a program! College education? REALLY?? Get real and wake up. I would love to have all those players back, not happening. WAKE UP! If we get any of those great TIGERS back, awesome, but chances are they are gone! Next year is rebuild or restructure or whatever the catch phrase is...get used to it. The current NFL and College environment encourages this.

I really believe the NCAA needs to go back to 4 years in school before going pro. I don't care about the 1 yr for basketball or less for baseball. It all should be 4 years.

College football players spend 10x the amount of time preparint to play football versus working towards a degree. There are exceptions but most spend so much time prepping to play and EXCEL at a major university that class is an afterthought. They go, and most do enough to stay eligible, but think about an average students lifestyle vs. a football player. Weightroom, practice, nutrition, studying to stay eligible, game day, travel. I really couldn't imagine it NOT being the ultimate grind. Then throw in some fun, while all you critics worry about shite like how they act in public and how they are thugs. This aggrivates me to no end. No empathy at all. These guys lay literally there lives on the field for some entertainment for all of us fans, an we complain when they can go in the third round and make 200,000 a year vs. sitting in a class. Get real.

You don't get the huge pay days in the first rd like years past. Leaving early is the right move for anyone that'll get taken in the first few rds or if there is little room for improvement in the next year.

I would love to see everyone of these guys Tigers until they get that Degree, however reality is, no matter the round they are picked, no matter the money they earn, no matter the amount of education they receive while on free scholarship, they are still trying to earn a living, and if they can do it when they are juniors, go for it! I love LSU, and want each and everyone to graduate and be an ALL-AMERICAN first rounder, that is limited to a few, but 200-300K a year is pretty good salary. Most of these guys get to college banking on that exactly. Quit being so judgemental. Geaux Tigers!!! Les will figure out the next crop!

Because of the rookie wage rules, unless a player is 1st round, it doesn't really matter if they go 3rd or 6th round. The rookie wages are pretty much set. The 3rd guy doesn't make that much more than the 6th round guy. The guys going for NFL want to get the clock ticking on their first contract. It's the second contract where they cash in. As long as they know they will make a NFL team, they will be gone.

"chump change" to YOU maybe. It doesn't matter if you are drafted or sign as a FA. "IF" you make an NFL roster, the minimum salary in 2014 is $420,000!

For most of these broke college kids, a chance at that kind of dough is worth taking a chance at if they have any chance at all.

That is a mighty high horse you are riding there, and totally oblivious of the reality of the situation.

Dude. Please just...shut the frick up. It's all like your opinion man.

You can put any amount of money on a college experience like they get. I bet you couldn't even imagine.

Money is far from everything. Dude.

According to Mike Detillier the difference between Benny Logan and Michael Ford rookie salaries is 175K total per year between them. That's an early 3rd round pick and an undrafted free agent. Not a big difference in money for such a big draft difference. The big money comes in the 2nd contract. The players want to get to their 2nd contract as soon as possible. That's 1 reason for them to leave early.

Almost 200k a year huh?

You do know that's more then 95% of Americans make right?

And that's just the difference.

I hope the NCAA doesn't go to a 4 year minimum. Some of these kids aren't good students at all. Many come from terrible schools and don't have any foundation. In my opinion they have the right to make a living. Many of them don't have the academic skills to make 6 figure incomes. Football is a way for them to make a good living. 4 year college is not for everyone. It's arrogant to say that it is. The way it's set up now is players can go 3 years to junior college (1 year of redshirt to focus on academics) and then go pro coming out of JUCO.

The NCAA has nothing to do with when the players can get drafted.

In the grand scheme of it you are talking about a huge difference in where those players were drafted. 67th overall pick to a player not drafted at all. 175K vs a huge multi million dollar contract you sign a year earlier. Getting to the 2nd contract a year earlier is worth going pro earlier. In reality most of these players might improve their draft stock 1-2 rounds not 4-5 rounds. Their big pay day is coming in the 2nd contract. You can disagree with me, but this is what these players are thinking. That's why they are leaving early. Our opinions don't matter.
