I hope they side with Hobby Lobby on this one and protect their rights.

The nation’s highest court accepted the federal government’s appeal of a June decision by the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals that a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate to provide potentially life-terminating drugs and devices in employee insurance plans places a substantial burden on the religious freedoms of Hobby Lobby, which is solely owned by founder David Green and his family.

“This is a major step for the Greens and their family businesses in an important fight for Americans’ religious liberty,” said Kyle Duncan, general counsel of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and lead lawyer for Hobby Lobby. “We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will clarify once and for all that religious freedom in our country should be protected for family business owners like the Greens.”

Dear lord those tweets frustrate me to no end.

NO ONE is taking away a women's access to birth control or making decisions for them!

Want birth control? Buy some!

Hmmm.. what ended Obama's guarantee of "If you like your plan you can keep your plan. Period."

Obama just can't seem to catch a break. Maybe he should shop guaranteeing stuff.

free contraception coverage

It's not free. They are paying a monthly cost to cover it.

quote:

Birth control is basic health care for millions of women

It's an elective for 99% of those millions. It's simply not needed. If they want it, pay for it.

1% like my wife need it to control a cyst. But guess what? We pay for it!

quote:

Birth control should be a woman’s decision, not her boss’s

It is her decision... To pay for it.

quote:

"no one, including the govt" should dictate birth control decisions to women

They aren't. Every one of them can easily go buy birth control.

Democrats always want free shite.

Me too, and I would like to think this would be an easy case to decide. If the justices valued our constitution they would rule 9-0 in favor of Hobby Lobby.

So tell her to go fricking buy it on her own

You're not forced to work for Hobby Lobby, find an employer that wants to buy you your BC

That's what I would think too...

However (and I'm no lawyer so someone can correct me if I'm wrong), the argument is going to be that businesses are not entitled to the same right to practice religion that individuals are entitled to.

I would imagine Citizen's United would be playing a star role here.

Why in the frickballs does birth control have to be free anyway? It's not like it's some huge expense.

I just don't understand it.

And this shit:

quote:

The White House ? @WhiteHouse

Birth control should be a woman’s decision, not her boss’s

That makes absolutely no sense and it pisses me off to no end. The mental gymnastics they are pulling to justify free birth control is astonishing... and people actually believe that crap.

Of course it makes no sense to anyone using a rational thought process.

Once again, it's a classic appeal to emotion by using language similar to the rationale for pro-choice arguments, but instead applying it to birth control pills. They know perfectly well that the lemmings won't differentiate between the two topics.

But didn't the USSC just rule a few years back that companies were individuals in regards to political donations

What was the big legal decision regarding companies that Rex was up in arms about? I thought it had to do with companies being individuals in terms of political donations

Our survey says :

quote:

The Obama campaign's heavy focus on women's issues for the past year paid off in a big way on Tuesday night, resulting in an 18-point gender gap that largely contributed to the president's reelection.

According to CNN's exit polls, 55 percent of women voted for Obama, while only 44 percent voted for Mitt Romney. Men preferred Romney by a margin of 52 to 45 percent, and women made up about 54 percent of the electorate. In total, the gender gap on Tuesday added up to 18 percent -- a significantly wider margin than the 12-point gender gap in the 2008 election.

would this decision cover all organizations (Catholic Church for example) who object to paying for birth control?

Gee, what a surprise.

The WHOLE POINT of corporations, their raison d'etre, is to create a legal entity separate from its owners. A corporation is a statutory construction; if it has any rights it's because those rights were created (and should be created) by statute, not because their owners have certain rights. Corporations, by logic, have no human rights... no religious freedom, for example... because they are not human. All of which means, of course, is that this conservative Supreme Court will side with Hobby Lobby, because logic and reason and history are not strong suits of hypocrites Scalia, Thomas, and Alito.

I've never noticed it before. But just for kicks I down voted every post in the thread other than the last one by Rex.
