First part of this is an excerpt from the book; Erving really comes across someone who held Maravich in awe. It's a really good read & goes a bit beyond the quote I added below.

Pete Maravich is the most skilled basketball player I've ever seen.

Good read. I didn't know Pete was that tall.

He's always been a class act. I'm glad he posted something positive about Pistol Pete. The Pete was way ahead of his time.

I would have loved to have seen Maravich and Dr. J on the same team. Would have been unreal

quote:

The first time I see Pete in the gym after practice, he's shooting left-hand shots from a seated position. I've never seen anyone do that before.

quote:

Just spending time with Pete is funny, because he'll do these things with a basketball I've never seen before when he's just standing around, like spinning it frontwards, then backwards, just changing the direction of the spin with one flick, and it never leaves the tip of his finger.

sounds like some of those Dr. J & Pistol after practice scrimmages were pretty epic.

Pete was held in extremely high regards by his peers. If he played in today's game he be the biggest star in the league, he was so far ahead of the game it was crazy.

Perhaps my all time favorite athlete. And he did it with a functioning heart the size of a quarter. Don't ever say you can't do something.

Had no idea that Dr. J was with the Hawks for one pre-season. Would have been phenomenal if he and Pistol had managed to play together during the regular season.

He's not a class act. In the book he shames his daughter saying her mom wouldn't give a bj that day so that's how she was conceived. Refers to moms as a willing hippie or some shite.

Why say that about your daughter?

Keith Olbermann really, really gushes about Pete Maravich in one of his books... it was as though he was witnessing a god in action.

Superb find, thanks for sharing!

To this day I succinctly remember watching the ORIGINAL PP7 work his magic with the Jazz from high up in the Superdome when I was 5, 6 yrs old.

That was a great read.

Dr. J said Pete had red hair? I don't recall Pete having red hair

Like your avatar- Motel Hell

But on to Pete, saw him play many, many times- he was the best, but never had the right players around him. When he finally did (Boston) his knee was shot...
