Nah. I think Miyagi was really bloodthirsty and wanted to seriously hurt Sato. Deep down inside he was a bloodthirsty beast. That's why he always played all pacifist to keep it in check. By the time it was over he would have been wearing Sato's skin as belt.

Of course myagi wins. He's the Japanese Yoda. Yoda looked like a pussy until he lifted the XWing out of the swamp and then later (or earlier) fought Count Dookoo by flying.

Yeah, he was afraid of losing his cool and tearing Sato and his punk nephew limb from limb and looking like a maniac in front of the rest of the villagers, including his lady friend that he trying to smooth up to after forty years away.
Sato would quickly find out that, unlike that log, Miyagi hits back.

Miyagi would have let Sato win? Miyagi mentions something earlier in the movie.....something like "Even if Miyagi lose, village still safe".

Sato would have focused on converting Daniel Son to the dark side of karate. Daniel would have refused, because he wouldn't let the hate overwhelm him. Sato would have tried to kill Daniel and Miyagi would have intervened ultimately costing him his life.

You are all wrong. Miyagi would have left again. The only reason he came back was because his dad was dying. After his dad died, there really was no reason for him to stay. He and Danielson would have left and the movie would have ended.
So as you can see, that is why the storm HAD to come.
