Or are they all in Webster Parish? I was riding back to the camp and the damn things were about every twenty feet in the mud puddles. Got to where I was trying to hit one just to see how long they'd stay locked up. They'd always bust just right before I could get up to them.

Never seen this many before.

Public or private land? They must be moving in with the cold weather.

Wick, you think it's worth the effort to try hunting woodcock without dogs? Was thinking about going to sherburne one day this season.

I wouldn't. Hit me up once the season opens and you can make a hunt with me...

Is there any meat on one of these birds? I was actually gonna put Woodcock in that sentence but you pervs would be all over that.

Seriously, they don't look much bigger than hummingbirds? Are they worth it?

Bigger than a dove, but the meat is real dark and very gamey to some. Limit is 3 and the season runs Dec 18- Jan 31.

gonna have to go check the ex-mother0in-law's place at dusk. It is a spectacular fly-out zone for the Cock o' the wood. Too bad you can't shoot them after official sundown.

There are no woodcock in LA. The few that make it down here stay unmolested on private deer ground. To all those want hunt woodcock on public land, Arkansas is the ticket.

Alx and I have killed limits just stomping around through the thickets. place is full of them, but I haven't hunted it in years. Would sit on the levee at dusk to count how many flew out, and it was less and less over the past few years.

i had a public spot in Kisatchie NF a few years ago. Not sure if it still produces though. More research needs to be done.
