Get the Freedom as well for another 20,000 points (usually the bonus is 10,000, so again, get it now)

Ok, best way to do this? Just do online app for each one or call in and do it back to back?

Also, theres a fraud alert on my report currently thanks to a breach at Capital One. Foresee any issues?

Although the one for 40k points that I found only has a $95 fee, this one has a $125... But I guess the additional $100 in pts pays that off immediately

There is also a 5k point referral bonus right now I think still and a 5k add authorized user bonus some where. Bacon might have those as well.

As for fraud, I don't know, but dealing with my first fraud alert on my CSP and Freedom on Friday when I went to Baton Rouge.

Sitting at Pluckers minding my own business when I get an email saying someone is going crazy on Walmart.com

By the way, this is why I carry 3 CCs. I was down to my Amex in no time.

What happened to your other? I always carry around to and have my USAA (gas) card that stays in my car

Tell me about it. I referred two folks and then the bonus came out a few months later.

The CSP and Freedom went down 1 after the other. CSP hit a fraud alert. I actually caught the Freedom since someone booked a big airline ticket (might have been a keying mistake, but taking no chances).

After that I had the Amex SPG on me. I have a USAA and a Cap One Venture that I'll be downgrading shortly so I may do what you are and have one in the car. Having to rely on just an Amex could be trouble if that happens again.

Ya, you can transfer UR to United, however, the reverse is not true. Its instant, no waiting for a week.

Also, United award chart devaluation coming February 1st so check in to that so you can get some value if you were planning on going some where.

Link to info?

I don't have a shite ton of Mileage on there, like 8500, but from what I've seen it would pay for like a $300 flight on UA I've never really done the air miles thing.

May not affect you if you're a certain type of traveler.

Here's the link though so you can look around. Its screwing me on my honeymoon because my fiancee and I are planning to go to Africa sometime after our March 2015 wedding. Since we can't book before Feb. 1st we're going to have to eat these new points requirements.

Questions:
What is CSP or what does it stand for?

What are UR points?

How can you use these points?

It says "After you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months from account opening* - That's $625 towards airfare or hotels when you redeem through Chase Ultimate RewardsSM."

How hard is it to redeem for airfare? Any airlines, any time?

Bare with me here.

There are TWO ways to redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Chase UR points can be used to buy stupid shite like coffee makers all the way to airline tickets (target demographic for this card) through the Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) Mall. The points have a set value when used in the UR Mall. When Chase says:

quote:

After you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months from account opening* - That's $625 towards airfare or hotels when you redeem through Chase Ultimate RewardsSM

That's IF you buy your ticket through the UR mall. Now, there are no blackout dates or anything like that if you book through the mall. Its just like buying a ticket on travelocity or what not.

HOWEVER, there is a second way to redeem your points. Chase has a number of transfer partners, some being Korean Air, United, British Airways, etc.

By transferring your points to these partners (at a 1:1 rate), you are putting your points under that company's award policy, which is subject to availability of seats, etc. The benefit of this is that your points may be worth way more than what Chase says they are.

For example, Chase values 40,000 UR points at $500. However, on United, a roundtrip saver award in economy class is 40,000 United miles to northern South America. That ticket could likely cost you more than $500 out of pocket, therefore your points are worth more than Chase says they are when transferred to United for this purpose.

This valuation gets more and more pronounced when you redeem for first class/business class, so again for example, what Chase values 120,000 UR points at would be about $1,500. The same points transferred to United could buy you a roundtrip ticket to Africa in business/first class which is WAY more than $1,500 (think 3 to $4,000).

Hope that was somewhat helpful.

Very helpful, thanks for the thorough explanation.

As I said earlier, I don't fly but a time or two a year, and usually only once for personal travel, so this might not be a good card for me.
