They will own this one.

I'm not a conspiracy nut, really I'm not. But it wouldn't shock me to see some "national emergency" come out right before the elections next fall.

This is probably just a threat. A bargaining tool to pressure the GOP senators to get some Obama nominees confirmed. It seems to happen frequently by both parties.

What senate rules? Trying to eliminate the 60 vote threshold?

Yep. Lots of saber rattling and feather fluffing. After all is said and done, more will have been said than done.

re: MSNBC: Reid to use "Nuclear Option" to change Senate Rules
If Reid actually pulls off the nuclear option there will be major swings in political appointments and legislation. This would really put a stake in the heart of the founders vision of the role of the senate...the States' representatives.

Really, as it stands now, there is no use for the senate as a legislative body. The senate is beholden to the people not state legislatures as it was originally intended. The senate is simply an extension of the house. It's redundant.

Repeal the 17th, then the state legislatures get some representation and becomes more relevant.

The Progs are all in, and they see it slippin away. Like that other thread "whatever it takes"...Reid/Obama/et al WILL do 'whatever it takes'.

The real issue is IN WHAT FORM will those who see their FREEDOM being usurped by radical, fascist wanna-be tyrants....DO ABOUT IT. Tell their Reps to protest on the floor of the Congress and 'shut the government down'...or just stand by and accept it.

It will not surprise me one bit it we end up like Egypt...with the ultimate arbiter of power being our military. Thank the Good Lord that the vast majority - minus the corrupt Command who serve the *Government* over and above the Constitution - are aware of what is coming down and will step up when the chips are down on the table.

You're right, EP...the Progs are going to push it to *national emergency" status if that is the only hope to remain in power. And it will end up being the rope that hangs them. Maybe literally so.

I think Reid obviously wants a very liberal bench on the DC circuit. This is the court were bureaucratic/administrative rule makings are challenged. With a Democrat favorable DC circuit, the fourth branch of government gets stronger.

quote:

WASHINGTON -- The Senate could go nuclear as soon as Thursday morning, according to three Democratic Senate sources close to the decision.

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is prepared to change Senate filibuster rules by invoking the "nuclear option," or by using arcane Senate procedures to change the rules with just 51 votes instead of the standard two-thirds majority vote. Under Reid's new rules, only a simple majority would be required for all executive and judicial nominees other than those to the Supreme Court. Reid is meeting Thursday afternoon with progressive advocates of rules reform.

So they slammed Obamacare down our throats with a purely partisan vote and they haven't learned from that?
