I figured I'd ask this here.

I have cable internet and I use my own wireless modem. This is the type of modem I have I have had this for years and just decided to pull it off the shelf to use when I switched to cable internet.

I can't get the wifi to leave the office that it is in at my house. I can't get it across the hall or anything yet I can see the wireless networks of my neighbors. So what could be the issue? Bad modem?

Can you at least see your network when searching?

Nope. Only when right next to the modem can I see the network.

From the look of some of the reviews on Amazon it looks like you just have a crappy modem/wifi device.

LINK

you could try something like this.

I use something similar to get my signal to the other side of my house and it works pretty good.
