Now that the 32 teams are decided, I've been running draw simulations.

we have a 1 in 4 chance of drawing either the swiss or columbia.
we basically need that to happen and also not catch a 3 and 4 like France and Ivory Coast or something.
So it's basically a 1/6 or so we get a draw we can reasonably hope to advance from.
So yeah, we're fricked.

How great would it be if we could get rematches with Pot 3 Algeria and Pot 4 England? I know that would be very slim.

It sucks that the best team we've ever taken to a WC will probably put in the toughest group we've ever had.

We are completely f@#$ because we are the best team in pod 2, except Japan maybe close.
Therefore, we are from the weak pod, and any group with us in it is most statistically likely to be the group of death.
Our only shot to not be in a killer group is to get matched with Switzerland and/or the weaker two or so teams from each of the other pots.
Just drew the group -
Argentina
US
Nigeria
Croatia
I think we'd have an even chance of getting out of that group.
I'd have Croatia as maybe 3rd weakest in their pot, and Nigeria maybe 3rd or 4th in theirs? Replace Nigeria with Algeria, and I say its a 65% chance of advancing.

Columbia sucks. I don't think any of their players play for big sides. Or do they all play in the Columbian domestic league?

This is the deepest WC in memory. I think we can compete with any of the teams. We are the best team in Pot 2, and we are better than any of the African teams. We don't have the star power of certain other teams but we seem to be getting a group of players that work really well together. It will be exciting to watch for sure.

Spain is seeded so I don't think you could so even with Spain, that might be one of our best potential draws

Amazingly (thanks to their super easy UEFA Group and the FIFA system), Switzerland is also seeded, thus they are in the same pot at Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, etc. Easily the weakest team of that group, imo.
