Why doesn't LSU push and promote tailgating for basketball games?

As we all know, not everyone who tailgates and drinks at the local establishments during football season go/attend the football games. Why doesn't LSU promote a watered down version of tailgating for the weekend basketball games (especially big-time out of conference and SEC games)? Louisiana residents and LSU students and fans enjoy a fine tailgate as any. You can blame the cold, but that doesn't stop LSU fans in the late football season and early baseball season. Also, LSU fans and alumni have no problem tailgating and partying in the cold months for Mardi Gras. Besides, some whiskey and a gumbo cooking at the tailgate can help fight the winter nip. What say you Tiger fans? Any reason why there is no tailgating during the basketball season?

ETA: An even more practical idea - why doesn't the University/Athletic department promote a "pre-game" LSU Basketball party much like the New Orleans Pelicans? If anyone hasn't been to a Pelicans game, they usually have a mini basketball court set up for kids to play, a band playing (usually a local band or a cover band like the Chee Weez), cheap beer (for LSU - you can bring your own), some food tents, etc. It's pretty fun for an hour or so before the Pel's game.

It'll come naturally with more winning.

Also, it doesn't help so many of our games are during weekdays.

The Nicholson expansion project should go a long way in promoting a fun atmosphere around the PMAC...

Impromptu "tailgating" used to occur around the PMAC during the CJ/Shaq years when the students would camp out for days to get a good seat. Very similar to "K-ville" at Duke. It created a great atmosphere especially since that was the dark days of LSU football. It helped create quite the buzz before games (forgive the double entendre).

Sadly the majority of the basketball faithful don't seem to be the tailgating type.

Good idea though.

most of the students that go to basketball games are weird as frick and don't do cool stuff like drinking and tailgating. we need to attract different types of students and this will happen naturally.

many of the games are during the week and working people don't have time to tailgate before a game

frats are too cool to tailgate before basketball

the Roar Corps are weird dweebs who most of the students don't want to associate with

hot chicks don't go to the games, therefor, the dudes go where the chicks are (mainly Reggies and Bogies).

If the team keeps winning, the culture will slowly change.

i think friday and saturday games could be a great excuse to day drink then go to the bars.

drink all day, go to game from 7 to 10, go to bar from 10 to 2. great day.

sounds fun to me. What would be really dandy and encourage a raucus, full student section would be alcohol sales at games, but the LSU Athletic Department would never go for it.

It's seems to me that the "regular" students sometimes go but they sit in the seats behind the weirdos.

some do, but not a lot most of the time. However, the students generally show up in greater numbers than the non-students.

Why would they promote something that would create a lot of work afterwards?

me and a few friends do that for just about every game.

those kids in the front are very, very weird. some of the stuff they yell out/chant is just cringe worthy.

It's hard for students especially now getting close to the end of the semester. I wanted to drink and go to the game tonight but was stuck in the library typing a paper

They've got 9 or 10 more games left throughout the season that fall on Friday and Saturday.

This is another good point. I have a marketing presentation, management presentation, and a finance test over these next few days. It's just that time of the year for students.
