I have a "friend" that loves to talk crap about the Saints He claims the reason he will forever pull for anybody but the Saints is because back when Benson was threatening to move the team out of N.O. that it was well publicized that Benson called all the residents of LA trash and was doing everything he could to move the team.
I've asked him numerous times to provide me with any shred of proof of this but he never can. He claims I must just be blocking that out
Any truth to all this BS?

You would probably find better trash related answers on the OT.

I doubt he ever used those words but he certainly did almost everything in his power to move the team to San Antonio after Katrina. Lot of people here sweep that under the rug but it is what it is...

He did say 'GET HOFFA MAH PWOPITY!' when reporters pressed him on the issue.

Tell your friend he is a fcktard and a inbred retard.
Benson explored the option of possibly moving the team, but I think he did it as a cry for attention to get some $$ to get shite fixed.

He never called the people of La trash, but in general I wouldn't blame him if he did.

I deleted a two redneck friends on facebook within a week over stupid Saints issues they had.
One made a racist comment about N.O. and the Saints.
Another made two or three post about fema rebuilding the Saints owned superdome and how much he hated the Saints because of it. So much stupidity in that one.

He definitely entertained the idea of moving the team, but your friend exaggerates.

So I decided to bring this to real Saints fans

I'd say active lobbying versus entertaining but that's splitting hairs.

It was a crack at all the "trashy" threads there, not towards you.

He had to explore all of his options. There was no guarantee he would have a city much less a stadium to come home too. It's a business, a lot didn't return to NOLA

That being said, I think I would have lost my mind, literally, if they left

It's pretty obvious. Hell, even if he thought those things he isn't dumb enough to say it out loud.

this is what your friend might have been referring to

Benson charged a cameraman with a raised hand while leaving Tiger Stadium following a Saints loss to the Miami Dolphins and lunged at the television news crew grabbing a camera and wrenching it down before being eased away by Saints security. A video also appeared to show Benson angrily responding to a heckling fan. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league would likely take no action against Benson. On November 11, 2005, an e-mail sent to Commissioner Paul Tagliabue from Benson was leaked to the press. Benson stated in the e-mail that he feared for his life, and his family's safety upon his exit from Tiger Stadium, and would not be returning to any future games in Baton Rouge. Benson declared in the email that security in the stadium was "inadequate" and claimed that his family "could all have been severely injured or killed." However, LSU officials were quick to point out that they had no negative comments from the Saints or the NFL concerning Tiger Stadium security. In addition, the videotape of Benson from October 30 showed him being escorted by at least one security guard, belying his e-mail claim that security was "non-existent." A day later, Saints spokesman Greg Bensel stated that Benson's e-mail was sent in frustration, and that Benson was undecided on whether he would attend any future games in Baton Rouge. Benson did not attend the following week's game at Tiger Stadium on November 6 against the Chicago Bears.

Yes that would suck. I bought a "San Antonio Saints" shirt that they were selling outside of a game there. Really, while the Alamodome had a good location the stadium itself sucked.

Would have been so shitty to move to San Antonio. Though I do think the Austin/San Antonio area could support a team. (they are similar distance as NOLA to BR)

keep in mind that nobody knew what was going to happen to new orleans and also keep in mind that benson was trying to sell tickets in san antonio.

He did do everything he could to move the team but he never insulted anyone. Tagliabu saved us. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant.

This and people forget that before the Benson group bought the Saints, John Mecom Jr. had threatened to and explored the opportunity to move the Saints to Jacksonville.

Benson buying the team ensured that they would stay in NO. I honestly don't blame Benson for hedging his bets and exploring his options in light of what Katrina had done to NO and how disfunctional the city government was at that time.

Sounds like a typical Saturday night in TS
