We have posted a position for an insides sales rep.

We invited about 10 of them to interview and only 3 showed up to interview.

This has happened numerous times in the past. People don't show up for interviews. Is this a basic skill that is lost on people nowadays? Not even a call.

We have about 5 open positions right now and they have been open for the past 6 months. I can't find anybody to fill them. We have posted on pretty much every job board imaginable. Very frustrating!

Sort of weird for a professional position. Could understand if it were crap jobs.

I know people that are struggling badly with underemployment- its the hidden problem in today's economy.

My neighbor was a staff accountant at a mid-size company that merged all their operations to another state. He was given the opportunity to move, but chose not to (families are from here, kids are established in school. etc.)

He can only find part-time work in his field and is having to supplement with more part-time work. His wife had to go back to work and can also only find part-time work.

You make just as much if not more on Welfare...

Sometimes, "Inside Sales" is a counter job. Not saying that in OP case it's not. Inside sales does not necessarily means a professional position. In TX, the oil/gas industry grabs the best workers.

This is sad but true.

I interviewed a guy this weekend for a helper position. I offered him $13/hour and he refused to take the job because he made more on Welfare (15/hour).

While I can understand not wanting to take a cut, isn't welfare a limited thing?

Wait. What???
$13/hr for a helper position? What the frick do y'all have for college-educated candidates? I'm not looking but I just may leave my current position for a job with your company if y'all can afford to pay that much to general helpers. What do y'all offer to actual educated employees?

Also, why the frick does Welfare pay $15/hr?

Well no one was taking the helper job at $9/hour which is what our helper positions originally were. Or the candidates we would get would all be felon's. Hell, we can even train them to go from a helper to a lead tech in 3 months which bumps them up to $18-$22/hour. People just don't want to work.

We had to raise our hourly a bit to get "better" candidates.

Guys, the inside sales position we have is literally someone to sit in an office and answer phones and converts the calls to sales. Which if someone has called us, they want our service. They don't even have to sell, just answer the phone, follow a script, and take the customer's info..The only "selling" is upselling at the end of the call for additional services.

My wife does it now but our volume is too much that we can't keep up. The only requirements we have for the inside sales position are a. You know how to answer a phone, b. you have a cheery, professional voice, and c. you know how to use a computer and the latest online services such as google mail. I guess it's more of a mini-callcenter position.

If someone would just show up to the position and has those 3 qualities they can literally just sit down and answer the phones at our sales office they could easily make a minimum of $50k/year.

I don't know if I can post the job because I did not intend this post to be a job posting. HA I was literally just venting.

I've heard this same story several times over from many business owners. The most egregious $25 an hour and paid training (to start) and they cannot meet the demand
