Didn't that goal-line fumble go out-of-bounds before crossing the line?

I'm wondering why nobody seemed to question whether that ball passed on the inside or the OUTSIDE of the pylon. (Don't have it to watch again.)
None of the replay angles they used gave a clear sideline or overhead view, but a couple of angles it seemed like he lost it out of bounds before it crossed the goal-line. He appeared to be switching the ball from his left hand (where it shouldn't have been anyway) to his right, to reach out, when he lost it; this sideways momentum seemed to take the ball on the OUTSIDE of the pylon - note that the ball landed a good yard outside the side edge of the end-zone....

Because it shot out the back of the endzone. Freak play. Definite swing of emotions for me. Haha

Doesn't matter because he was down by contact on the interception

Also if you notice the ref in position on the play called him out of bounds at the one yard line. It would not have been reviewed because it was not have been within two minutes of the half and San Fran already blew their challenges. It was bs because the head ref bailed out San Fran when he really had no basis to do so because he was across the field.

Very bull shite move by the ref because he changed the call so they could review it; however, the call on the field has the advantage in the booth.

yeah, i thought he was down by contact...but I thought that the path of the fumble should have been looked at too...it looked from where he was and where the ball landed that it didnt cross the pile on. I dont know if that was looked at

The ball was fumbled out of bounds at about the 2. It never went into the endzone. Terrible call cost us 7 points.

I think it did as well, but I knew there wasn't gonna be an angle that would be able to overturn it.

It didn't look like he was down by contact to me, honestly. The guy touched him before he caught the ball. He caught it as he was falling from the push, and then rolled over and started running.

But it did look like the ball went out around the half yard line.

This would be worth a lot more complaining if we lost. But we didn't, so ill let it go..

Nah he wasn't, he didn't fully control it until he was on the ground and not being touched. I knew the only chance it had of being overturned was whether it went out if bounds instead of out of the end zone.

Which the more that I think about it, why didn't they make that more of an emphasis? They pretty quickly just assumed it did and I think a majority of that challenger was focused on whether he was down by contact or not.

Thought all turnovers are automatically reviewed?

The problem was the ref in position made this the call. The ref from across the field with no angle is the one who called a touchback. It was complete bs. As you said a review would be hard to prove either way; therefore the call on the field mattered quite a bit.

Nope. Look again. Landed about a yard outside the end-zone, on the side, not the back.

But that seems STILL wrong- he's not over-ruling the ref who marked "out at the 1yd line" because he had a better view (clearly he could not have), but you seem to be saying that his reasoning was "gosh it really sucks for SF that they are out of challenges, let's fix it for them"...

And THEN, the review (at least from the views the network kept showing) clearly seemed to focus on an aspect of the play unrelated to whether it was out-of-bounds or not???

White should of never switched the ball from one hand to the other. Get knocked out at the 2 yd line and let your offense go to work. Stupid decision cost us at least 3 pts.

I don't even understand the rule all that much.

Insane to go from a pick-6 all the way to giving possession back to the other team.
