Honey Island Range hours proposed Range Hours Change
Posted on 11/17/13 at 6:51 pm
Posted on 11/17/13 at 6:51 pm
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has recently asked the Honey Island Shooting Range to reduce the hours of operation during hunting season to Fridays from 11:00 to 3:00, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 3:00 (14 hours per week).
I am asking each of you to send out POLITE requests to the seven Commissioners on the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission asking them to reconsider their request for the Range to limit the hours of operation of the range.
Sound Impact Study
FACTS:
1. The Honey Island Shooting Range is the ONLY public-use shooting range in Southeast Louisiana.
2. The Honey Island Shooting Range is affordable, only charging a shooter $6.00 to use the range for an entire day. This puts the use of the range within the grasp of any person, regardless of one’s income, and does not require one to join an expensive private shooting range.
3. The use of the Honey Island Shooting Range soars during the hunting season, as many hunters use the range to sight in their rifles and to practice prior to their hunting session.
2012 Range Use Figures:
Q1 – 4,563
Q2 – 4,125
Q3 – 3,993
Q4 – 7,039
Year Total: 19,720
4. This fourth quarter jump in use of the range is documented back to 1993, when SELFS, Inc. assumed operation of the range.
5. A 33% reduction in the operating hours (from 21 hours per week to 14 hours per week) during the peak use by hunters negatively impacts hunters, which is in direct conflict with the goals of the LWFC.
Please contact the commissioners and tell them how important the Honey Island Shooting Range is to the hunters and shooters of Southeast Louisiana. Tell them that a reduction of hours by 33% will adversely impact the ability of hunters to sight in their rifles, for men and women to practice for their self defense, and for families to enjoy a safe environment to exercise their Second Amendment Rights.
Lets not forget...The Pearl River WMA is over 30,000 acres, so it is not impossible for the very few complainers that have brought about this decision to hunt in a different part of the WMA during original Range operation hours.

I find this whole mess because of a few habitual complainers disgusting...
As a hunter as well as a Shooting enthusiast, I find this very anti Firearm, Anti 2A and I hope everyone will sound off to the Commission to make them see the error they are making for Firearm Enthusiasts across Southeast Louisiana...

I will be at the range Friday Morning when the range is normally supposed to open asking anyone that wanted to enter the range to sign a petition to change the range hours back to what they were...
a few inbred douche nozzles are ruining this for gun enthusiasts...

The people who want it to stay closed during hunting hours will be there as well. They were last saturday morning at day light.

there are more people that use the range than the few complainers that want the whole 35,000 acres to themselves...
They're a bunch of selfish assholes if you ask me...
If you could see the inbred assholes that are pushing for this, you'd understand what I'm talking about.

I used to hunt right behind the range. I would cross the range and go through the back gate to the far left of the pistol range before daylight. Run down the levee and cut in. Noise was never a factor

Guys Please: The Commission still needs to hear from you
Worked the range desk yesterday...page after page of Petitions were signed and Friday is generally a slow day.
Not a single person didn't want to sign it.
Some were hunters that hunt just down the same road as the range and even commented "the range has never affected their hunt"
Today and Sunday will be even better.
The habitual complainers that wanted the range area to be their private hunting ground got a rude awakening on Thursday...
Due to their complaint at the board of commissioners meeting last Monday, LDWF realized there was not a buffer zone around the Range as required by State regulations.
So Thursday LDWF spent the day putting up signs and there is now a 200 acre(total)buffer zone around the 5 acre range...so in effect the complainers shot themselves in the foot. And I believe we will win the hours change battle as well. the Louisiana Shooting Assn also is on our side and it's large membership has responded in kind.

You can thank the idiots that complained...if they'd have just minded their own business instead of trying to screw over the Range and it's 19,670 users in a years period this wouldn't have happened...
hows that old saying go? snitches get stitches?
You can complain to them on their facebook page about what they caused...
had they not brought their complaint about the Range before the Board, the board would never have realized there was no buffer zone...
they screwed a lot of people over by starting this whole mess...including themselves.
